Mi Torito Mexican Restaurant Galena — Restaurant in Galena

We had high hopes after reading the reviews here, but our overall experience was so-so at best. The physical restaurant itself is beautiful and very large. Much larger cities would be blessed to have such a well-decorated and colorful Mexican restaurant. But I wish the owner would have spent a third less on the décor and a third more on the quality of the food.

We had the chile relleno/beef hardshell taco (#1) and the carne asada/grilled chicken soft tacos (#7) lunch specials and all of it tasted like it was straight from the latest Sysco delivery. Even the runny refritos and dry arroz rojo looked and tasted pre-packaged, and not made on the premises.

The service was adequate. We were seated, our order was taken, and a nice young man from the kitchen delivered it to our table. Our waitress remained largely unseen, although she and other employees were chatting two booths away. There was no "Is everything ok? Can I get you anything?"

Long story short: apparently the locals are happy enough with it, but if you are travelling through Galena, and have a craving for good Tex-Mex, I don't recommend...

Beautiful inside/outside seating and decor, but my friends and I weren’t even there to critique the establishment or anything of that matter. The service was deplorable. Some of the worst service I’ve ever had to be honest. I’m not new to the area and I don’t have high expectations. I DO, however, have expectations of being actually served by a server or servers, since we had to seek out a different server each time we needed something. When we were approached to have our orders taken after over an hour being there, the server gave excuses instead of apologies. We were all in disbelief about the lack/quality of service the whole evening. Not that this would excuse this type of behavior anyway, but at no time did my friends or I do anything rude, disrespectful, or ask for special accommodations one would think might’ve occurred to have then been treated this way. Upon walking in the atmosphere seemed OK. We were greeted asked what we would like to drink brought chips and salsa asked if we would like anything. We requested cheese dip and guacamole and we forgotten about for probably 10 minutes never brought the guacamole and she our rude waitress came within asked again for a guacamole, cheese dip And Drinks. When she brought them, my margarita, had a huge hair in it She took it away and Kmart with another one like nothing, They brought our food out with no regard, No organization, no apology. They reached across my friend’s food twice to put chips on the table finally, when they decided to fill them up. I will never come back to this restaurant not only was it not quality food, but it was terrible service. It was disgusting because there was a hair in my margarita and they could care less.
