The restaurant building itself seems to be a converted pizza chain building, but it has been remodeled with nice touches inside and out to give it a bright, clean look.
Our waiter was attentive, and helped us make our drink, salad, and entrée selections. Our salads were classic American iceberg salads, fresh, with chopped hot house tomatoes and onions. My salad included one lonely black olive. I heard him crying out for company in my salad bowl, but he got no answer. The dressings were good.
The bread sticks were quite good, fresh, warm, and covered with parmesan cheese, although the default small cup of marinara wasn't enough if you didn't get something with a sauce for an entrée. Luckily we did. 🙂
Unfortunately, as I have gotten older my memory has faded, and I am making the mistake of writing this review five days after my friend and I ate at Tuscany. I do not have the exact name of the dish my friend ordered, but he let me have a bite. It was penne, sauced with a blended red and alfredo sauce. It was rich and creamy, with a nice tomato flavor moderated by the cheesiness of the alfredo sauce. Not too shabby, and a good-sized portion.
I ordered the chicken alfredo. I believe the chicken breast was actually pounded and grilled in house. It had a golden finish, and good flavor. The alfredo sauce could have used a bit more parmesan punch in the actual crafting of the sauce, although the nice dosing of parmesan our waiter supplied us as he served the main course filled in any rough flavor spots. The linguine was cooked to a perfect al dente. I cleaned my plate with the last of the bread sticks, if that tells you anything.
We were both satisfied with our meals, and satisfied with the price. My understanding is this restaurant is popular with the locals in Gallipolis. I...
Read moreI realize many people love this place. We did not. We were on vacation and wanted to have a nice Italian dinner. Something special, you know? This wasn't it. Tuscany is like Olive Garden without the garden and maybe one olive. My wife's calamari was 80 percent deep fried banana pepper strips. She wanted squid, not banana peppers. I know they do that in Rhode Island, but we were in [expletive deleted] Ohio. Give her some calamari. Her shrimp scampi was disappointing. The shrimp was overcooked and tough. The pasta was almost al dente. Not done. She didn't finish it. I got the Trio de Italia or something like that... it was chicken parmigiana, lasagna, and fettuccine Alfredo. The Alfredo sauce was like melted school paste. The Chicken parm was almost burned and definitely overcooked. The lasagna was too sweet for my tastes and, again, overcooked. I took two bites of each entree and could go no further. The manager comped the calamari. We enjoyed the mozzarella sticks, the Sangria, and the draft Blue Moon. Everything else was displeasing. I am angry that I paid as much as I did for that meal and left having eaten nothing but pub food. It's doubtful we'll be back in Ohio anytime soon. But even if we were coming back next weekend, I would choose Domino's Pizza over Tuscany. I would take Totino's Pizza Rolls over Tuscany. Ragu on a slice of Wonder Bread is preferable. Like I said, I know we're in the minority. We were prepared to rave about Tuscany based on the other reviews. Instead of raving, I'm ranting. That is just as disappointing...
Read moreHad to clean off five booths so that we can sit at a booth I have been walking lately on two canes because of hip problem which is the reason we had asked for a booth it started right there everything that we asked for from our waitress she acted like she was doing us a favor to get bread without asking two or three times for any bread not more everything they brought was horrible the Alfredo that we ordered had no alfredo sauce in it hardly at all very dry instead of bringing the cheese over to our alfredo she decided how much she was going to put on it I have never spoken with a waitress that was this phony or had an attitude like she did she should consider another line of work overall food and service both were bad would never recommend this restaurant to anyone thank you again for ruining our experience. Not to mention our waitress so-called waitress came over at the end of the whole ordeal we had not finished completely she comes over with this infernal little machine and stood over us until we paid which we felt was pressuring before we even finished with everything this is the worst restaurant that I've ever been in in my life all I can say is I am mad at myself for not leaving on the first sign of her not wanting to wait on us a group of people came in right after we were there 10 minutes it must have blown her mind because that is about the last we saw her we had to ask for everything twice just to get it once goodbye Tuscany's...
