EDIT: IN RESPONSE TO YOUR RESPONSE YOU DO NOT USE FRESH INGREDIENTS AND YOU SHOULD NOT PRIDE YOURSELF ON THE LACK OF SALT BECAUSE THAT IS SEASONING AND ANYBODY WHO KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT RESTAURANTS OR SERVING FOOD KNOWS THAT YOU NEED SALT ON YOUR FOOD. Perhaps you need to go watch an episode of kitchen nightmares or any other restaurant show so that you know what you're doing. You're losing a star on my review because of your passive aggressive response. The seafood obviously is frozen and not fresh. There is zero seasoning. The salt shaker had to be opened from the bottom because it was so compacted with moisture that it wouldn't shake out. Believe me we needed the salt, the entire shaker needed to be put on our food. The service was kind of lackluster they never refilled our drinks. I will say that the location is excellent and sitting on the patio and being able to see the ocean views while we ate was bar none. Please don't order the mussels. The white wine garlic butter sauce had neither garlic nor salt and was made with frozen overcooked mussels had a bunch of cracked pieces of shell that almost chipped my teeth several times. The gumbo tastes good but I think it's filled with MSG. It definitely isn't giving you fresh crab and it has pre-frozen popcorn shrimp, pre-frozen shredded crab and some sausage. I ordered a side of crab meat for my salad and it was two tablespoons of shredded pre-frozen unflavored possible crab meat. They couldn't even get the garlic bread right. It had neither garlic nor salt nor even butter. Although it was one of the most expensive and worst meals in Galveston I still enjoyed the view and the experience there so I would go back and order something else just to test it out and see if they've improved. My daughter got the chicken tenders with french fries. It was unremarkable. It lacked seasoning AKA salt. I'm going to chalk it up to being Easter Sunday where people didn't actually want to be there to help cook . We will try again but it better be better because this place is a great location even if it's a little hard to get to and it could be so much better if somebody actually cared in the kitchen! Must be hard to find people who actually care about cooking in this remote part of Galveston Island, but I pray to God that person will show up and make this restaurant a landmark. There's a lot of rich people who stay in these places around it so you would think somebody would catch on to the idea of that it could be a great place. PS I did hear some of the other customers around me complaining about the lack of salt it...
Read moreMy wife and I had been staying at a nearby RV resort watching and waiting for Coopers Landing to open. Finally, the open signs went up and we headed straight there, they called it their "soft" opening night.
PARKING: Parking is ok if you get there early. However not really sufficient for the number of tables/seats in the restaurant. It will become a problem as more people learn of their opening.
STICKER SHOCK: My wife wanted to sit outside and we were able to find a table that she was was hoping for. We sat outside or at least beyond the roll up doors, you could call it the balcony area. We received our drinks (water) pretty quickly. Opening the menu, WOW, what a shocker. The prices were $$$$. Thinking it may not be too bad, but then we read that the entrée items did NOT include any sides. I had been having a hankering for Salmon so went straight to that section. Ok it was about $38 or something close to that. Then add the sides or I should say side. I only ordered one side as they were all single serving sides between $4-$6 each. My meal, salmon and asparagus was ~$42, Just my meal alone. I believe our entire meal was near $100 for just two people (no drinks, just water).
FOOD: The food was good, slightly above par but not close to the price. The wife ordered a crab and shrimp which she really enjoyed. My salmon was slightly over cooked and was at the point of losing its moisture, but was better than other faster food places in Galveston that specialize in fried seafood.
SUMMARY: Our food was good and the view was nice. Wait time was a bit on the long side but price was too high. We hope that Coopers Landing lasts as the west end needs good restaurants, but in order to do that they need to make the prices a bit...
Read moreTLDR version: they were out of half their menu, kids went home starving, food was mediocre, way over priced. Service and atmosphere were good.
We have been wanting to try this restaurant for a while because we stay on this end of the island frequently, so I was excited to make our first visit last night. Unfortunately we left very disappointed. We started off by trying to order calamari but they were out. Then our waiter told us they were also out of a couple different fish dishes. I jokingly asked him if they had cows and chicken and he said oh yes of course. We stuck with it and got the shrimp kisses as an appetizer which was pretty good. After we ordered main dishes, and our waiter went to turn the order in to the kitchen, we found out that they were also out of all chicken so they couldn’t fill my wife’s or either of my kids’ orders. They were also out of fillet mignon which the other family with us tried to order. We got our “last resort” orders and it was just ok. Ribeye was bland and tough. All the problems could be because of a busy holiday weekend but it’s not a new restaurant so you’d think they would have the process down already by now. It’s a beautiful restaurant with an upscale feel, very clean and professional. They seemed to be well staffed and our waiter did the best he could with the less than ideal operational management behind him. We play a game with the kids on our road trips where on our way home we take turns talking about our favorite parts of our trips, the whole family agreed this was the worst part of our trip to Galveston. We really wanted to like this place since we visit Galveston a few times each year and almost always stay on the west side of the island but unfortunately we probably...
