Hubby & I ordered takeout from Bamboo last night as first time customers after seeing all of the other positive reviews on Google & local FB groups.
We ordered the Mongolian Beef w/ Miso Soup, Crab/Cream Cheese Wontons, a regular California Roll, and a Philidelphia Roll.
The Positives:
Gorgeous restaurant with great lighting, soft music, and NO distracting televisions.
Love the different seating options, including the sushi bar.
The server(s) seemed to be fairly attentive to the dine-in customers, even though it was clear they were understaffed for the evening.
All of our food tasted flavorful and fresh once we got home.
We recieved free marble sodas after an extended wait period for our takeout order.
The Negatives:
The online ordering system quoted us 30 minutes between placing our order and picking it up.
In reality, we waited for almost 30 extra minutes to get our food - which involved sitting at a dine-in table with dirty dishes from previous customers (since there isn't anywhere else to sit down while waiting for takeout orders).
While the host/waiter was apologetic and gave us free sodas, the online ordering system should be adjusted so the pickup time is more accurate.
They packaged our VERY HOT Mongolian Beef, Wontons, and Miso Soup in the same plastic bag as our cold sushi rolls.
To the manager/owner: Cold and hot food items ALWAYS need to be packaged in separate bags for takeout orders. We had to put our sushi in our home freezer for 25+ minutes to cool it down before eating it.
The cook(s) forgot to fill one of my wontons with crab/cream cheese, so we had to eat one that was literally only fried wonton paper and nothing else (see photo).
Sweet/sour sauce should be included with every wonton order since it's standard at almost every other local asian restaurant. The wontons did not come with any dipping sauce.
There was an extremely hot pepper in the Mongolian Beef that was supposed to be taken out after the initial cooking process.
When removing it by hand, some of the pepper juice accidentally got on part of our Mongolian Beef and made it so spicy that I could barely eat it (this is coming from someone who usually enjoys low to medium-hot spice).
There was a clear language barrier between the host/waiter and ourselves, which made it difficult to convey that we were there to pickup our pre-paid takeout order.
Initially the host thought we were dine-in customers, so we had to clarify twice that we had already ordered online and it was pre-paid.
While this wasn't a huge problem for us since we're generally patient people, I can see this language barrier potentually becoming a more significant issue as this place continues to gain popularity and gets busier.
Overall, we will defintiely return to Bamboo once they're more established, have hired additional staff, and have their cooking operations dialed-in. Love the combo of Asian Cuisine + Sushi, it's a much-needed flavor combo here...
Read moreA new sushi joint opened up so of course I had to go check it out! I have been stalking this joint since I saw the construction going on it a few months back. I finally had the opportunity to have lunch here today.
Walking in, the venue is very bright! When you think of bamboo, you think of light, green and strong. And this place very much is! The venue is very light and vibrant! It's soft with its beautiful floral pieces but strong with its lines and tables. I came at a late hour so it was neat seeing the restaurant at it's quiet state.
For lunch I ordered some inari, spider and a cup of hot and sour soup. The hot and sour soup came out first. It was rich in color and hot! You can see the chili flakes in there so to know there's going to be a good amount of heat. It was thick, had good amounts of egg and bamboo shoots. The soup was ok. The heat element was great! But there was no sour to the soup. It had the right amount of saltiness but unfortunately no acidity to it. The inari was good. Pretty typical compared to a lot of other sushi joints. The spider roll was girthy but where was the other half of my roll? This is the second sushi joint I have been to in the valley that charges 10+ bucks for a half of a roll. Just a little confusing when you only receive part of a roll. Besides the confusion, the roll was decent. I can tell that my soft shell crab wasn't fresh. It had been previously fried and was sitting out for a while. The batter was hard on some parts of the crab. Made it hard to chew. But the cucumber, crab and avocado were great. I do wish there was a little more acid to the sushi rice. The rice was very one noted.
Bai served me today. It was his first day and he did pretty good! He checked up on a few times. Was very nice and cordial.
Overall, it was a good dining experience. The service was great! Pricing vs the good you get..... I know there's a lot of other joints in town where you get your bang for your buck. I just don't feel like this...
Read moreThis is our new favorite place in town, quite frankly anywhere. My wife, son and I went here for the 3rd time in a week since first coming here. You cannot beat the prices, quality of the food and service. Your hot food comes out steaming hot and the cold food/drinks come out freezing cold. They are so incredibly fast, nice and everything we have ordered has been phenomenal. The atmosphere is so tranquil as well, even when it was super busy. Everything is so clean and tidy as well. We left spending $60 (including tip) for: Edamame hot green tea plate of orange slices (free, for our son who’s 3) miso and egg flower soup avocado house salad Mongolian beef platter with rice that came out sizzling like fajitas chicken teriyaki box 3 scoops of ice cream
We also left our son’s hat there last time we visited, the owner remembered us, gave it to our son and has given him a toy the last two times we’ve gone in.
Another thing to add the quality and speed of service didn’t change from when we went when it was slower later in the evening versus when it was super busy. That is saying a lot and speaks volumes.
You need to come here because I guarantee you will have the best...
