San Francisco Sourdough Eatery ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I visited the Boise location of San Francisco Sourdough Eatery years ago but my experience was not memorable. I visited it for the second time on 12/10/21, prompted by a couple of great reviews by members of my FB group Southern Idaho Foodies, one of which mentioned this business having great soup.
I ordered a specialty sandwich, Pastrami Topped with Coleslaw ($9.50) and a cup of Clam Chowder ($5.50). I like that my sandwich had lots of pastrami. I would have preferred it if the bread had been grilled because the combination of the hot meat, sauce a.k.a. special spread, and the coleslaw made it a bit soggy. I wouldn’t order this particular sandwich again because the flavor overall was a bit sweet for my taste, but I would like to try another sandwich. I gave half of my sandwich to a coworker who loves sandwiches. She enjoyed it. I didn’t care for the Clam Chowder, which came with 3 small slices of sourdough bread. But I would like to try some of their other soups.
The next time I visit, I plan on ordering another specialty sandwich, The Open Face Italian Roast Beef. This is an East Coast sandwich. I’ve never seen it on any other menu in Idaho. I was told they order their Giardiniera from a company back East.
I LOVED the Sourdough bread! I like that they sell sourdough loaves, which are actually the same sourdough baguettes they used to make their sandwiches with. I would give this business 5 stars based simply on the quality of their sourdough bread. I will definitely be stopping here the next time I need some great sourdough bread. The gentleman working the front counter told me the recipe they use is over 100 years old. I believe it.
This is a clean and well-run business. The customer service was excellent! The gentleman at the counter was more than happy to answer all of my questions. I was in and out quickly.
There are two locations in Southern Idaho. One is a Boise; the other is in Meridian. There are four locations in...
Read moreWARNING!!!! This one does not make their sandwiches the same as the one in meridian!!!! And the costumer service is TERRIBLE!!!! I will never come here again. I ordered the Italian and normally when I get that at the meridian location it is well seasoned with mayo and oil and vinegar and it’s a very wet sandwich with the lettuce and oils falling out at the bottom by the time your done eating it. This location it was as dry as the desert!!!! Barely any lettuce on there, No mayo or the “spread” they have listed at the top of their menu that says all the subs come with. I tried to talk to the employee regarding if they make their sandwiches the same as the meridian location and she said they stopped making them like that due to complaints that they are too wet and they ask if the costumer wants mayo on it now. I was never asked when I ordered expecting the same service as the meridian location. SHE THEN PROCEEDED TO ROLL HER EYES AT ME!!!! WHAT?!? Then a guy comes up from the back and try’s to start arguing with me when I was just trying to understand how they make their sandwiches compared to meridian since I love their Italian at the meridian location and have eaten it multiple times and this one was not it!!! I WILL NEVER RETURN HERE AGAIN, go down a few exits and eat at the one in meridian off of the eagle exit.
To reply to the owners response to play fair in my review. I DID NOT eat half of my sandwich I only had about 2/3 bites of my sandwich to figure out why it tasted not quite right and then I asked for some mayo on the side to add on my own, added it, took maybe 2 more bites. still didn’t taste right. Had my husband take bite to tell me it didn’t taste right. So tells me a lot about how things are managed at this facility telling me I ate half when I most...
Read moreI have to preface this review with a couple of things about me. 1. I love a good Reuben and often will use that as a marker as to how good I think a sandwich place is. 2. I love black and white pictures. Those two things being said, I've always had Ruben's on rye bread, and this place obviously offers it on sourdough, so that was a little different, but it was fantastic. The bread was made very well. It had a great crunch to it, and all the toppings just worked extremely well together. The service was decently quick for the number of people that were in there, and it gave me time to look at the interior. It definitely doesn't read high-end, but in a deli shop like this, it doesn't need to. I love the black and white photos of San Francisco on the walls. The tables and chairs were all clean, and the brick wall just reads perfect for the atmosphere. A lot of the customers that were in there definitely seem to be regulars, and I can understand why. I really recommend trying...
