We ordered the Gyro lunch special. It’s not on the combo menu but they told us to order ANYTHING and they would make it a combo for us. We were here at 3:00 on a Saturday and the place was swamped! Everyone had a jumbo salad on their table as we walked in and by each table and boy did they look scrumptious! The folks dining all look happy and satisfied. Prices were right in line as other burger chains/mom and pops, however, this time I noticed the size portions were gigantic and filling for one person. My boyfriend and I split the Gyro combo and instead of fries we substituted zucchini fries and added an extra side of Ranch Dressing. Ours tasted great! The gyro was normal tasting, but the zucchini was out -of -this -world -knock- down -smack-dabbbbed delicious. The batter was light and textured just right. The fries were done perfectly and were very tasty! Next time I’m ordering a steak and salad just because I saw someone eating the platter and it looked oh so yummy! Oh, and how can I forget the wonderful staff? This being my first time here, I wasn’t certain on what to order on the menu and they had many ideas, tips, and ideas for me. But since I just wrote a review last week on the Gyro from Omega in Orange, CA, I couldn’t help but to order another Gyro and zucchini fries just to compare the two places together side-by-side. Not only were they better with customer service they were better with the food! They also were dressed professionally and look like they took showers and even knew how to count back change! They gave us back the money that we were owed instead of keeping the two dollars like Omega Drive in on Chapman in the city of Orange. Thanks Angelo’s for making our day with the Gyro Combo!!!! I should have taken pictures of the food but it was so mouth watering delicious looking I forgot and dug right in! ...
Read moreYou have to go to the RIGHT Angelo's!!
There are several Angelo's in the Anaheim/Garden Grove area that are owned by different owners. This is one of the (really) good ones. The not-so-good "Angelo's" are on Chapman and the one in State College with the chicks on roller skates.
So what's great about the "good Angelo's"? EVERYting.....that I've ever tried at least. I used to live down the street and would eat there at least twice a week.
I like mom-and-pop burger joints and for some reason they all seem to have the same burger patties, buns, and larger than McDonald's type fries. And in So-Cal most of these little burger joints incorporate Mexican food.
So what separates this Angelo's (and others by the same owner)? In a word...the seasoning. These Angelo's are owned by Greeks, and Greeks really know how to season their food. It's "just" a burger joint but everything is good to great. The pastrami is great quality on the pastrami hamburger (add bacon and cheese like me if you want to go nuts). Taquitos come loaded with good guacamole and tons of shredded cheese. The tacos are big and the beef is well seasoned. And the fajitas are really great too. I don't have pictures but just get down there already if you're in the mood for a great mom-and-pop burger experience.
Only downside is Sunday's. It's pretty nuts with Mexican kids running...
Read moreI honestly don't know why this place has such good reviews. We came here for late dinner and ordered a pretty wide spread of food. I ordered the hot dog with a side of onion rings. The hot dog was served cut in half and by default comes with mustard, onions, relish, all in a toasted bun with a side of pickle-- and honestly it was all very bland. Even Costco has better hot dogs than this place and it's way cheaper, except that place isn't open as late as Angelo's.
The onion rings were also sub-par. They were lacking in any real seasoning, and the grease was unbearable even with the ranch dressing they gave as a dip. Portions are huge here-- but we'll get to that later.
My friends ordered a bacon cheeseburger with fries, carne asada burrito, and chicken tenders with fries. They all said it was pretty bland, save for the burger (which is pretty hard to mess up). And you know what? Honestly every other dish we ordered was pretty hard to mess up too but Angelo's ended up missing the goal by a whole yard.
While the portions were huge, is it really fair to say that when we weren't even able to finish the food due to its lacking quality to begin with?
I'll give this Angelo's a hard pass and a pocket-change's worth of stars because it's a local business but it desperately needs to reevaluate...
