Kumo Sushi & Asian — Restaurant in Gardendale

After unexpected car repairs left us in Gardendale for the night, my husband and I were looking for somewhere to eat within walking distance of our hotel. Sushi is always our go-to, so we decided to give Kumo a try. We were quickly seated and greeted by our server, who was friendly and attentive for the duration of our meal. The atmosphere and decor could use a little help. Empty product boxes and takeout materials every direction you look made the restaurant feel cluttered. The food, however, was excellent. This place is great. Been eating here for a while and love their kani salad and Kumo appetizer. Ignore the posts about the fish tank since this was prompted by a Reddit user with a vendetta against the restaurant. Notice the fish tank photos are all the same? That’s because they came from the Reddit OP. These one-star reviews are from people that have never eaten there or they’d be more specific about the food instead of copying the same photo that’s no longer relevant since the owner removed the tank. If you’ve actually eaten there and don’t like the food, that’s valid. But if you’re just out to ruin a family-owned, local, small business, that’s really unfair and...

I ate here Saturday night 9/21/24 @ 6pm. I was not impressed. The place had no atmosphere whatsoever. There were only 3 other couples there the whole time I was there. The service was good but the food was bland. Especially the hot and sour soup. It was not hot or sour. Also, they have a sit-down bar, but no bartender! Couldn't get a mixed drink, and I had to wait 15 minutes to get a beer because they had to find someone old enough to serve it. I seriously doubt I will go back here, and I wouldn't recommend Kumo Sushi to anyone. Also, they have no draft beer and only 6 or 7 bottle beers...
