I'd like to see a filet on the menu.
In terms of proximity from my usual place of abode, this is the best place within walking distance. Also, it's just a great place to eat. Located street view of HWY 395 and on the corner of Gilman, and across the intersection from Sharkey's Casino.
I visit here just about every Wednesday during Happy Hour: $2 beer, $3 well drinks, $4 wine, and $5-7 appetizers. The ahi salad is amazing, and I enjoy the shrimp appetizer (hold the jalapenos, for me). The house Cabernet during Happy Hour is consistently good, not inky or tart - but there's no accounting for taste.
The building is made of thick brick walls. It's a two story building, but I'm not sure what goes on upstairs, if anything. The interior space is tall and voluminous. This can contribute to noise in a full house. There are painted portraits on the walls, and individual tables. Between the brick, portraits, and chandeliers, it feels old and charming, but in a clean and utilitarian sort of way. I sometimes let my mind wander and I wonder whether the building was built in the past few decades, or whether it's much older, and, whether it's meant to withstand seismic activity. Just curious! There's a lot of brick patterns!
The menu is full of interesting things to try. They keep their grill hot and ready. This is the sort of establishment that has a nightly special, and you regret having made up your mind consulting the menu once you have heard the special. Be sure to ask the server whether the item you have ordered is spicy. It might be. I haven't found anything on the menu yet I don't like, but I certainly haven't tried everything.
It's not a cheap place to eat. There are affordable options, but plan to spend some time and money.
There is a strong list of wines to choose from to compliment your meal, and since half the establishment is a bar (separated by a brick wall, of course, and it's never too rowdy) there are plenty of cocktails to choose from as well.
I would like to see more steakhouse options, like a few varieties for steak, some grilled shrimp again, and then maybe something that was featured on the Food Network, but perhaps that's asking too much!
I have not been to the bar, or on the patio, except to pass through, and so I've only really experienced the dining room. I imagine they have the same cuisine options no matter what space you...

Today’s visit to overland was so disappointing that I never want to visit again. Today was the wine walk so my friends and I decided to grab a bite after. Little did we know, that we would get zero service and be sitting ducks for the most part. We were sat on the outside patio (since we had our dog) and the waiter made it seem like it was inconvenient for him to sit us outside. We later learned that the patio had “no assigned waiter” so the guests who sat outside were just forgotten. Finally we had an amazing waitress help us out since no other waiter had came to check in on us. She was working so hard to help every guest outside and her tables inside but no other waiter could? However as soon as a table of 7 sat down, a waitress was quick to come and serve. Perhaps it’s better to visit in big parties so that they will quickly help? There was a mix up in the food order but since we didn’t have a “designated waiter”, we waited over 20 minutes and then was quickly dismissed by the manager. My friends and I were never checked how the food was, refills, or condiments, we had to track people down. My friends and I were so in shock how us and other guests were treated so I went to speak with the manager. He used the wine walk as an excuse for horrible service, even though we were told they were fully staffed, just no one was designated for the patio. Because of that, in my opinion it felt like no waiter was willing to go to the patio unless it was a huge party = big tip. Except Carla, who was such a doll and she really went out of her way to make sure the guests in the patio were helped. No other waiter/waitress cared or bothered to make an effort. To the manager who worked today who was so quick to leave while there were still guests on the patio not helped, i’m just...
Read moreThis place has a awesome opportunity. However here is my experience. We sat outside on a beautiful Sunday afternoon looking forward to enjoying some really good local food. We were told to find our own seats. No problem for me. Our waiter was very interesting to say the least in the beginning he was very friendly and accommodating. We ordered a tri tip sandwich and I personally ordered a caprese salad. It took over 35 minutes for our food to arrive and not once did anyone ask if we needed anything or to tell us what the delay was. Finally the food arrives. I was scolded for ordering my salad off the "dinner menu" instead of the lunch. If that's the case state that the dinner menu is not available until dinner! The salad consisted of 3 slices of tomato and 3 slices of mozzarella. Then accompanied by 1/2 cup of chopped salad. For the " dinner salad " that is tiny. They need to move this item to the appetizer section and offer it both lunch and dinner. The salad was very good taste wise. I asked for some bread for my salad and was told once again that it's a dinner item and if I wanted bread I would have to wait till dinner time. I was offered frackers and croutons as a substitution. I could not believe my ears. I took a top portion of tri tip sandwich bread to finish my salad. Then we waited a while again for him to ask if we wanted anything else. He comes to our table and announces the total to the entire patio and then asks if we want anything else. I'm sorry but you don't do that. I am really disappointed because the look and feel of the place had me excited but I was let down on this one. I am more than willing to speak to someone if they would like to contact me my cell is (239) 250-3145. My name is Jason and I hope they fix these issues because I see a lot of awesome possibilities in the future of this restaurant/bar. Thank you...
