Cơm Gà Houston — Restaurant in Garland

To avoid the crowd and the wait when they first opened, I ordered to go the first 2 times. Food was good, but not as good as the original store in Houston and the portion seemed smaller than the other 2 locations (Houston and Arlington). Now after 2 months of their opening, I chose to dine in this time. What a disappointment! First, I don’t know if it was just me or others could smell the sewage in the store?! Second, I came after lunch, around 1:30pm, there were 7 empty tables (1 clean and 6 dirty). I stood at the front door for about 10 mins, nobody talked to me. Then another couple walked in, the old waitress finally came around ( the cashier guy saw me but didn’t say anything and didn’t tell anyone to come help me either). Since I was by myself, she decided to sit the couple first (they told her I came first and she said I should wait for the small table to be clean.) A younger lady pushed the cart around to clean tables but not the one I got assigned to. Then another group of 3 walked in, they got sat to a table just got clean. And another group of 5 got in and got sat again while I was still standing and wait to be sat down (around 20mins at that point). Somehow after that the young lady decided to stop cleaning tables and I thought to myself if I should just leave. The old lady came out with food and saw I was still standing there, she felt bad at this point I guessed, so she told me I could sit at a big table for 2-4 people now instead of the small table for 1-2 people. (And again, the cashier guy saw the whole thing but didn’t do anything or say anything to change the situation.) When I checked out, he was walking back to the togo table and left me standing at the counter to pack food (no other customers were there to pick it up yet). I guessed nobody besides him can do check-out because other ladies looked at me and just walked past me to do something else. He letted me wait for him to pack the food and put it in bag and sat it aside (he didn’t even hurry to collect the money lol) before he walked back to help me. The customer service here is terrible, practically nonexistent. The cashier is always slow and lacks professionalism. On top of that, they charge an additional 3% for credit card payments, so they constantly push for cash or Zelle payments!!!

I’ve dined in and ordered to-go from this place many times. Each time, the price seems to vary, even for the same dish. I didn’t pay much attention until today when I ordered a dark meat chicken rice for togo. It took several minutes just to get the bill for a single order, and they charged me $16.63. However, I had ordered the exact same dish yesterday for $16.18.

When I asked, the cashier said the price difference was because white meat and dark meat are priced differently. But I clearly ordered the same type both times. After paying via Zelle, I noticed the receipt listed a 3% service charge. When I questioned this, they said they assumed I was paying with a card and simply apologized. That’s it!!!

While $0.45 isn’t much, if they do this to multiple customers daily, imagine how much they’re collecting from this practice. For a restaurant with such expensive menu items, charging an extra 3% for card payments is unacceptable.

The worst Vietnamese restaurant I have ever experienced: Very crowded because it has just opened for a week and it's Friday evening. Very least to no space between tables. It's really hard to even try to find way to sit down Understaffed and they seem to have no experience. Got a table with a tiny space in a corner, waiting for a while before asking the lady who just passed by a table near by to get a menu. She didn't know how to take the order. She needs to go back and forth to ask the items I ordered again. Ordered 2 items in the menu: the first one took 15m to be ready, the 2nd one took forever to be ready. Tried reminding the server a couple times after another 15m. Surprisingly, someone who just came and sat down got the same dish that we were waiting for half of hour. Very disappointed. I can't stand anymore, quickly paid and left right away The one we got cost 16.99 (+ tax) is not worth the money. It's more expensive compared with other Vietnamese restaurants near by. The quality is not much difference
