The boy and I stepped out for quick breakfast and we are always on the prowl for places we haven't been before. Thanks to Google for finding this little hole in the wall.
Most of the reviews were pretty good. Couple of complainers who are e-tough but obviously never give feedback at the restaurant. If there is problem, be polite and let them know! Don't just nuke them in a review. How did they recover? Sheesh.....
That being said, here we go. Hole in the Wall Vibe™ checklist -tattered chairs, check -menu stains, check -mish mash decor, tables and chairs, check -amazing wait staff who are super nice, check -decent price point, check -serviceable food and LOTs of options, check -chonky portions, check -no persnickety froo froo bullsh*t, check
I always go for the chicken fried steak breakfast to test the menu. At $10.99, I was not expecting a pounded out beef cutlet, perfectly seasoned, twice breaded and just the perfect tempura style fry. That is EXACTLY what I did NOT get. ROFL!!!!
It was a standard quick fry frozen CFS w/ white gravy (think school lunch) rounded out by two perfect sunny side eggs and a double portion of hash browns. Hash browns could have been browned a little more, but not a crime. Just my preference. It was the kind of yummy a frito pie is. It's awesome, but it will be a few months before you have it again. But now I at least have a new breakfast go to. Test passed, facehole happy.
It was a perfectly serviceable breakfast with bottomless coffee. .
Read moreI have eaten there many times but the way I was treated by the waitresses, I may never go back. I used to eat there a lot and then moved to Fort Worth. Anytime I'm in the area, I like to go there. I tried calling in my order started at 2:15 on my way to the cafe, because I knew they closed at 3:00PM. I called 4 times, each time being sent to a voicemail which was full. I got there at 2:30 and the waitress said they were only taking to-go orders at that time. I told her I had tried to call several times but no one answered the phone. There were 5 girls working plus 3 people I know of in the back. So I ended up eating my food in my car at the restaurant bc by the time I got home it would be a cold and soggy hamburger. The girls already had chairs on one half of the cafe and they started putting every condiment they had on the table where I'm sitting waiting for my food. I got 4 prices of ice in my iced tea, I was told they were out of ice, and yet one of the other waitresses comes out with a cup full of ice. The phone rang numerous times while I was waiting for my food. They put it straight to VM. They went to the phone, and instead of answering it, they pushed the silent button. When the girl did it, she said "there's no one here that wants to talk to you" Is the manager aware they are refusing business?? So, before 3 PM I'm done eating in my car and I took my to-go box inside the cafe... And what are they doing? Siting around chatting. They need to learn about customer service. I have never been treated so rudely. It's sad bc I really enjoyed...
Read moreCame here at the recommendation of a food group. Took our niece and nephew try it out.
Food:
My wife got the Chicken Fried Steak breakfast. It was frozen and tasted like the steak dinners you got in grade school. My wife actually loved it because it reminded her of her school days but I didn’t care for it. I got the Combo plate. The sausage patty tastes just like McDonalds patty which I like. Bacon was really hard and crispy. Ham was average. Hash brown was good as well. They give you a lot. It also comes with an option of biscuits, toast or pancakes. I got strawberry pancakes. They were good but weren’t the fluffiest. My nephew got a similar platter except it had no ham or sausage. It was called the Mega plate. My niece got the burger and she really enjoyed it. It was kids sIzed and kid approved.
Price:
Price was reasonable. $7.50 for a combo plate. $5.50 for mega plate. $7.50 for chicken fried steak breakfast. Another $5 for Jr. Cheeseburger. No complaints.
Service:
The staff was nice but we waited almost an hour for our food. The chef came out after 45 minutes to finally say her waffle machine was broken so we couldn’t get it. Then our food finally came out.
Ambience:
We went on a Sunday noon and it was packed but the tables were moving along fast so we got seated in about 10 minutes.
Overall, the food was good but waited way too long for our food and the last minute mistake of not telling us one of our dishes would not be coming out made us...
