ANGIE’S Garner, NC
Sometimes we find a great restaurant through a specific search and sometimes we find a great restaurant just by good luck. Luck brought me to this gem of a restaurant called Angie’s, in Garner, NC. I was looking for a restaurant for lunch. A friend suggested that I try Angie’s in Garner. What a wonderful surprise! My experience started with a courteous and personable hostess who was directing the constant flow of customers like an air traffic controller. Her greeting was warm and genuine. Her estimate of table times was right on the money. Her personality was perfect for the hostess position. A great start to my visit that only got better! I was seated, and my server was at the table in mere seconds. She was very pleasant and knew the menu well. Her recommendations were welcomed, and led me to some very well prepared and tasty food. I had a chicken breast sandwich topped with a fried green tomato, pimento cheese and hot honey on a fresh baked biscuit. In all my years in the food business, I had never heard of such a combination. It was absolutely delicious, and very filling. I had a side of potato salad that I could swear my mom made. The ingredients were fresh but the potato salad had been marinated just long enough for all the flavors to blend perfectly together. Where had Angie’s been all of my life? I asked the hostess if there was really an Angie, or if it was just the restaurant’s name. She looked at me like I had two heads! She told me she would bring Angie over to meet me. There really is an Angie! She stopped by the table and visited with me for several minutes. She explained that she focused her entire staff on food quality and creating the best customer service possible. Her food is locally grown and fresh. Her staff is well trained and works very well together. Angie leads them. She is not an absentee owner. She works her restaurant, has very high standards, and insists on the best from her entire team. She has a winning restaurant because of her hard work and her dedication to quality. If I could award her a Michelin Star, I would. It you’re in Garner, you must visit Angie’s. If you’re not in Garner, go there just to visit Angie’s. I highly recommend this restaurant!

Update October 2021: So now, with the price increases, Angie's became our special once-a-month treat on Saturday mornings. However, Angie's is so popular these last two visits that the restaurant seating is at full capacity - which means 30-45 minutes wait. You can call ahead, but that doesn't mean your name will make it on to the waiting list.
It also seems that her cooks are beyond their capacity to cook to specific requests now.
Last month, I ordered eggs benedict poached soft as proper eggs benedict are properly prepared. I got medium-hard and hard poaches. It was difficult to get the waitress's attention to reorder. She was rushed attending all of her customers. Not a problem. The food was still good and tasty.
Today, I ordered rib eye steak medium to medium-well. I got a very medium-raw, which again was ok since it was delicious and I was hungry. Still, both experiences suggest that the cooks are more focused on getting the orders out than on cooking food to order.
Service is still excellent. But after these last 2 visits and in consideration for the price paid, I reluctantly drop the rating by another star. My rating is based on my experiences here over the past 5 years. I'm sure you will have a higher rating based on your first-time visit and/or if you stop here during the weekdays.
Update August 2021: Still great food and service, but with Angie's reopening after her July closure, a breakfast for my wife and I went from $25 to almost $40 - the cost found at much fancier restaurants in this area. As much as we enjoy eating family style eggs and bacon, we had to cut back on our visits. I dropped the rating from 5 to 4.
May 2016: Great food, attentive staff, cheap prices for big servings. Crowded during weekends because the...

It is always such a great start to our weekend. Angie and her staff are super friendly and the food is excellent. We leave stuffed and happy.
Standout items from the menu include the Philly and the Trojan Burger, of course, but I enjoy the vegetables most of all. They have a standard group available every day, such as mashed potatoes, fried okra, green beans, etc. Then there are daily extras like turnip greens, field peas, or navy beans. All are prepared well. In fact, when was the last time you had green beans that were still actually bright green? No olive drab at Angie's.
Last weekend I got the pancakes because the waitress said they had been voted third-best in the Raleigh area, or something to that effect. Excellent.
The pork products come from Nahunta Pork Center, so order some country ham and you know it will be great, though you'll be surprised at the giant slab that arrives with your breakfast.
So just go there already. Just don't go on Saturday. My wife and I would like to...
