I’m currently in San Antonio, Texas, and the tacos over here are overrated and have disappointed me very much. Supposedly the “Taquitos”(Mini Tacos) here are the most authentic they can get to the real street tacos in Mexico. Yet the taste and flavor just isn’t there compared to this place! What you’ll experience here is a whole different level! So far I’ve tried over 15 places(Texas) and none have come near to being as delicious to Raleigh’s El Toro! I even have gone to Houston, Galveston, and Dallas, and still no experience has come close! No need to have that dipping Red Broth/Caldo nonsense that you’ve probably seen people do on Facebook or in Texas. Here you can literally eat the tacos with just the meat and tortilla with no cilantro, salsa, or onions added! It’s that good! You also know it’s really good when the “Gringos”(white folk) pull up! LOL! Bit of joke, but people of different races do come in to try it out, not just Mexicans! And I doubt they leave disappointed! The second best tacos I’ve tasted are near Burlington(city), can’t remember the name, but we stopped by when going to the County Detention Center to visit one of my Uncles, haven’t gone since he then got Deported a few years back. Will update review with name of establishment if I remember! El Toro definitely offers the best Tacos and Mexican food in the Triangle area, if not...
Read moreI have been to the mountaintop; Tacos El Gordo in Las Vegas. I've been chasing that dragon ever since, looking for incredible handmade street tacos. Walking in to El Toro I had high hopes; it was very clean with an expansive, modern dining room, efficient ordering counter and a toppings bar. Alas, the tacos were just average. We got Asada, Pastor and chorizo. Pastor was the best, and I'd even rate it Very Good, the chorizo was fine, but the asada was dry and flavorless. The tortillas didn't taste freshly made and didn't seem like they had been grilled. Don't get me wrong, they weren't bad. I ate everything on my plate, and some from my wife and daughter's plate, I liked it all, we would absolutely go back, but I've tasted greatness and this, unfortunately isn't it. This is good. We got mango aqua fresca and horchata to drink; both a little too sweet. I saw someone with a bottle of Modelo, so they must have beer. I feel like this review comes off a little harsh, but I think that is mostly my disappointment at once again failing to find a rival to El Gordo. In all honesty this place is big, clean, friendly, fast and the food isn't bad at all. I would have no problem recommending it and would...
Read moreI am new to the Raleigh/Durham area, and have been homesick for cultura Mexicana! I was thrilled to have taken my colleague’s recommendation of grabbing tacos at El Toro because, from the moment you pull into the parking lot, you’ll realize you’re in a Hispanic friendly environment! There were tons of Latinos everywhere! Obtaining a parking space wasn’t easy. The location itself isn’t very big- was populated indeed, but not solely with Hispanics. I noticed white and black folks having lunch and were noticeably comfortable. Unless I’m mistaken, they seem to be moving locations- across the street, to a bigger eatery accommodating a greater number of people. Anyway, it’s a no-brainer as to why it was packed. The food is tasty! Great quantity and quality for your bills! Two cons? The horchata wasn’t exactly great. In fact, it didn’t really taste like horchata at all- very diluted. Secondly, the three dishes we ordered were ready at different times, which was disappointing. We had to keep getting up...
