TL:DR, I tried condensing the larger description to a sensible format but there was too much to mention. This is the absolute best BBQ you will put in your mouth found around the Tri Cities. Stop talking, stop thinking, stop reading this review as you jay walk into traffic; just follow your nose and thank them when you arrive.
What an experience; I'll try keeping this short but I'm excited to see them open and am about to explain why you should be as well. Years ago I was proud of the Barbeque available in NE Tennessee. The area's restaurants all sported a uniquity which cemented their survival through the belly of many, myself included. But with each passing year I noticed something changing. Even before covid we witnessed a departure from what set us apart, as though we'd forgotten what makes Barbeque such a principal necessity for our region. I bet you can guess what that was, dear reader. QUA--LI--TY SMOKE.
You see, while the local Barbeque is good, some objectively better than others, none of it gives me a craving for woodš like I'd experienced as a young adult. That covetous hunger only satiated by slow smoked pork and brisket, clean-pull ribs and devilish fowl to make a middle-eastern mother hail mary (Which type, you ask? Yes) Well, pull right up and let me thtimulate that thalamus because the new guys have made a statement you'll want to taste first AND second hand. It makes sense, just keep reading and don't think about it.
Kane Street Smokehouse slow cures every staple they craft from the mint sausage and beans to the chicken and ribs. If it's a protein, it gets THE SMOKE. Not that Wright's cheating liquid dog** your dad buys once each summer when he wants to impress his frenemies, NO. This is perfectly rendered, 12 hour hickory smoked brisket like you've never experienced. How can I be so certain? I've sampled every BBQ these mountains host: hidden, "mainstream" and everything in between. But you don't have to believe my word, ponder this short survey honestly before continuing: recall the last time you ate a full serving of turkey without a drink or slathering of your preferred sloppy topping. Don't remember? Neither did I. And I'm a fata$$, so naturally I've eaten a county's worth of turkey in my life cooked all manner of methods.
Here's the point I'm relaying to you: if you had no reason to visit Virginia but love BBQ as much as I, you're doing yourself a disservice by missing the region's best. Succulent, mesmerizing and unforgettable the way I remember that homemade in Texas. Now, I've put my soul into this message and still not given this place enough praise; it's honestly too good to describe in any human tongue I've heard. So I'll awkwardly end on this note because I could continue describing heaven's doorway all day, to our collective detriment: don't try to snake the recipe for their banana pudding. It's a secret no one deserves. Just enjoy it while there, and thank your lucky stars Courtney was kind enough to share it with we unworthy public.
Pictures to follow my next visit which will be very soon. I'll...

Now yāall, let me tell youāwe live in BBQ country and drive nearly two hours (passing plenty of other places) just to eat at Kaneās Street Smokehouse, and Iād do it again tomorrow!
This southern girl grew up on BBQ before I could even spell it, and Kaneās is some of the best Iāve ever hadāhands down! Around here, it aināt enough just to have good BBQ; youāve got to master the sides and the sauce, and Lord have mercy, they sure have!
All the sauces are winners, but that Original and Sweet Heat have my heart. Every bite of meat is smoky perfection, but believe it or not, Iāll throw down over the chicken and turkeyāso juicy you could swear they were just carved fresh off the smoker.
Now letās talk sides, because yāall know thatās where the soul of a BBQ meal lives! The corn casserole? Out of this worldājust a tiny lilā kick, not spicy, but enough to make your taste buds dance. The potato salad and pickles (yes, pickles!) are spot-on too. Who knew pickles could steal the show at a BBQ joint?
And of course, they finish strong with banana puddingābecause no true southern BBQ meal is complete without it.
On top of all that deliciousness, the customer service is top notch! Every single time we visit, the folks at Kaneās are friendly, welcoming, and more than happy to make suggestions or help you order. You feel like family the minute you walk through the door.
Itās also Christian owned and operated, and you can truly feel that heart and integrity shining through in the food and service.
Prices are fair and reasonable, especially for BBQ this amazingāworth every penny and every mile of the drive.
If youāre craving real southern comfort served with love, pride, and flavor, Kaneās Street Smokehouse is the place to be. Donāt just take my word for itāgo get yourself a plate and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe visited on a Friday afternoon in early April while driving through town. We got to talk with the owner Josh who seemed pretty cool and learned a little about the history of how they started the restaurant. The Kane St. Smokehouse opened in August 2022 and looks like they were doing great. He said it was a bit slower than usual that day because it was Good Friday and many people were out of school and the local area families were probably just starting their spring break trips.
We had our order to go since we were traveling and wanted to save some time. We ordered something call "The Whole Herd" which feeds 4. You can pick 5 meats, 3 sides and 4 rolls. We opted for the Brisket, Pork Ribs, Pull Pork, Chicken and Turkey. The Turkey was recommend by the cashier and OMG it was so moist and juicy. Honestly probably better than the chicken. You get 2 ribs which the kids were fighting over and the brisket and pulled pork were both great as well.
For the sides we picked baked beans, Mac-n-cheese and the jalapeƱo corn casserole. Bake beans were good and my youngest gobbled up the mac-n-cheese but the Jalapeno corn casserole is where it is at! 100% more of this and is a must order. If you like jalapeno spice and something savory this was it. Wish we ordered more.
You also get to pick two sauces and we decided to do the Kane's original and the Sweet Spicy. Both amazing sauces but my family likes spicy and the sweet spicy we decided was the better of the two. The rolls were also super soft and slightly sweet as well. If you're driving through town you have to stop here if you want some good barbeque. If we lived in town we could see how this would be one of our...
