Riganato — Restaurant in Geneva Township

Riganato is one of the better Italian restaurants in the St. Charles/ Geneva area. I highly recommend the enormous ricotta stuffed meatballs, listed as an appetizer, but definitely a meal! The marinara has a nice acidic balance with the slightest hint of sweetness, the meatballs are cooked to perfection, and the ricotta filling inside is creamy and in perfect balance with the entire dish. The other diners at my table enjoyed the roasted beet and walnut salad, with an ample amount of chicken added, ( our server recommended a small portion, and she was right, it was still a very large dinner salad, and all the ingredients fresh and laid on generously). Rigatoni Primavera was also ordered, and the pasta was cooked to perfection. Again, the portions were generous, and the leftovers made for a nice lunch the next day. Our server was fantastic! She was very friendly, helpful with menu selections, attentative and prompt. While an old house has been renovated into the restaurant that is now Riganato, it lacks a bit of space. The atmosphere is adorned with a fireplace, stark white linens, and Italian countryside decor, but is rather cramped for the diner, as the tables are very close together, and I couldn't move my chair for fear of bumping into the stranger behind me. Both my family and myself are regular customers of Riganato's, and we are never disappointed. I have turned my coworkers onto it as well, and every so often we do a group lunch order (a very nice treat!) The service is always outstanding, and the food unparalleled in the area for the cuisine. They have the best hamburgers around, and I don't say that lightly as there are a number of great places in the area to get delicious hamburgers. But I am a rare meat lover, and the beef has a wonderful flavor (my favorites are the Manchego Jalapeno burger and the Horseradish Cheddar burger). The salads are excellent (especially their fresh beet salad). The fresh beets appetizer is equally as delicious (and garlicky - yum!). I am proud to say they aren't shy about using garlic in their dishes, such as my favorite appetizer, the Jalapeno Gnocchi w/ Walnut Cilantro pesto - which is perfect for an entree too, and the Portobello Mushroom sandwich. I haven't had it, but I have heard from others that their pizza is delicious too. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of the food. If you sign up for their email mailing list, they regularly send out their weekly/daily specials. We wanted to try the restaurant because of the really good reviews that previous customers had posted. We came in on a Friday evening. Because it was our first time it didn't occur to us to get a reservation. When we got there we were greeted by a very nice and super friendly hostess. She of course asked if we had a reservation which we answered that we didn't. She said that they would try to work it out. At that point she involved the manager, (female, may even have been the owner. Not sure), who was also very friendly and also reassured us that they would try to work it out to get us in. That was our first impression. From there our experience held the same high level. Our server Madeline was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Honestly it seemed that every employee even the guy cleaning the tables had a great demeanor. Many restaurants that you go to the employees come across like you're bothering them. We didn't feel this from any employee that we saw. And then there was the food, which is really what it comes down to. This would decide wether you will return. Well the food was outstanding. We had the salmon and the tortellini. We also tried the Riganato pizza. Everything without exception was delicious, perfectly prepared with good sized portions. We will definitely return soon.
