I love leaving good reviews but unfortunately the experience I had this evening with my daughter and friends is far from good. In fact it was the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant/bar. I along with two others in my party are in the food industry. You WANT us at your table when serving us. Unfortunately Jeannie V hated everything about her job and honestly it looked like her life too. Constantly sighing at us, eye rolls, frustrated and constantly telling us they were "busy". I had to laugh, the bar was not busy. I do lunches by myself and I work in a sports bar. She was frustrated from asking for separate checks to my friend deciding how she wanted her burger built (the build your own burger is on your menu, your idea). With all the restaurants to choose from we chose yours. But never again. There are reasons that places are closing down especially all the ones in Geneva. Guest service needs to be number 1. Leave life at the door. Get your life together. And fake it to make it. But with her under your roof it's only a matter of time that you will be shutting your doors as well. And remember, the guests that come to your restaurant and not order through a third party need to matter (almost more). We are buying the alcohol!!! Good luck to you all....
Read moreGreat place overall, great food, atmosphere, staff. Unfortunately that chill atmosphere sometimes changes when there is a wedding in a nearby building. I have seen how these half-in-the-bag wedding parties tromp in and seemingly try to take over this place by thinking it is an extension of their own world. It gets over-crowded in an instant and starts to feel like all the other self-centered youth-geared bars that line the local streets. It's not the bars fault but at this point I would advise just leaving. We recently had just this experience when we came in with another couple after a concert at the Arcada. Sitting at the bar and having a snack we were having a great time until two [2] separate wedding parties decided to have their reception sequel at the Dam Bar. The impatient fools were being pushy trying to get the servers attention. When we asked them to stop pushing into us/spilling drinks things escalated to a shouting match because it seems that they felt is was 'their' bar now. The best solution is to have a person at the door when there are weddings to limit half-drunk fools as well as prevent overcrowding. 5/19/20 During Covid we were inventing new drinks! tall glass w/ice grey goose, dr. mcgilicuttys cherry, cranberry and splash...
Read moreTook the family, including two kinds under 10 and a couple of out of town guests (group of 6 total) for dinner on a Sunday. Only thing that wasn't superb was I wish, for us and given the time of day, that the music was just a little lower, but I won't complain about the choices. Good mix of classic rock with a tickle of old school country and soul sprinkled in.
Food was good all around. Even my kids, picky as they are, liked their choices, which is far from a given. Three of us got burgers and the other adult chose a Reuben; all were pleased.
The old character of the building is visible both inside and out, but this adds charm. The menu is large enough for a bar and grill that most should find something they like.
The service was great. There were a couple of other tables with customers and the bar itself was about 2/3 occupied and all this was handled by one person. We never felt unattended or wondered where she was; never felt rushed, either. As a server in a former life, I was impressed. Service was perfect despite handling more than what many could at all.
We'll be back. For all the above reasons, plus my 8-year-old likes to order his dam food from the dam menu and not get in...
