First time trying this place and was extremely disappointed. Itâs a hole in the wall which is fine because sometimes you find the best eats in places like this. I was excited to see the large smoker grill in the yard and figured this spot has to be good. The place is small and when you walk inside, I saw quite a few pics of famous people, so I really thought to myself the food must be good and reputable.
They have the food out on display buffet style (no lids). From the looks of it, the sides didnât look very appetizing (Mac and cheese, yams, rice, cabbage). It was late and close to closing time so I went against my better judgement and I ordered anyways.
We ordered the Brown Stew Snapper (double rice), Jerk Chicken, Curry Chicken, and side order of plantain.
First off, looking at the rice and peas I mentioned to the gentleman, do you have enough rice and he said yes. I ended up having to wait additional time because he ran out of rice. I left and went to my car came back inside and notice he appeared to be reheating rice they must have had stored in the fridge. Yuck!
I eat a lot of Jamaican food. It is one of my favorites. This by far was one of the most disgusting Iâve ever had. Everything was nasty! The Brown Stew Fish had a weird fishy taste to it, the sauce was not your typical that you usually get with Brown Stew Chicken, I mean even the peppers werenât cooked right. The Curry looked like boiled chicken and the color wasnât right and the taste made me gag. I tried to eat the Jerk Chicken. It was spicy but there wasnât any flavor to it. Rice and peas was off putting and the plantain was soooo greasy and tasted like it had been fried in old oil.
Everything had the weirdest taste, no flavor and I literally got nauseous and immediately felt like I needed to vomit. We paid close to $68 and threw it all away. A complete waste of money. What some people consider good food is different because I donât know how they have 4 stars. I hardly ever write reviews but this...
Read moreNice people!! Very generous portions, great flavors, nice drink selection, serves a variety of vegan and vegetarian options
However, good business breeds complacency. Customer service suffers and there seems to be no respect for cleanliness.
That place needs to be cleaned and the elder lady definitely needs help on a Saturday night. We waited 1 hr and 1/2 for food. I should never hear a dispute between the supervisor and the line Cooks about avoiding work. They couldn't complete our order after selling food we had already ordered to the next customers. I should never know when someone with a fresh concept is going to put something in the microwave and serve it on the line. The same dust and grease film on those pictures and That same air conditioner have been pushing out dirty air over all that food for over a decade. I don't see what I don't know you can look in the pictures and see the same dirty wall perpendicular to the same AC . I understand the concept of a shack, hole in the wall vibe and no doubt that would be beautiful if it were clean and the older lady is not overwhelmed, taking orders, serving and cooking food. God bless her heart but she's licks her hands while serving food. You can tell the flavor is good but the quality was sub par. The macaroni cheese was overcooked both the noodles and the hard cheese at the top. Unfortunately I won't be going back nor will I advise anyone to go until I see a...
Read moreStopped by for lunch thinking a hole-in-the-wall style restaurant might be a nice change of pace. It was the BAD kind of hole-in-the-wall.
Firstly, I was the 4th person in line. Man in front of me walked out after 5 min of standing without the line moving. I should have taken that as a sign. Took about 25 min for the other 3 people in front of me to order and receive their food.
Second, as I got to place my order, as others have said the food is all sitting there, uncovered, buffet style, looking like it has been prepared this morning and left out. Peering through the plexiglass into the kitchen, Lord knows how they pass health and safety inspections. I ordered curry chicken, rice and peas, Mac and cheese, and collard greens.
As far as the food goes, I was overall unimpressed. The chicken was decent, as was the rice and peas, but the Mac and cheese was suuuper bland and soggy, and the collard greens were almost too salty to eat. And strangely I kept having to spit out fragments of bone.
The portions were large, receiving a to-go box packed nearly to the brim, so they've got that going for them, but the meal was priced $13 on the menu and I got charged $16. I paid in cash bc I wasn't about to have another card number stolen, and was shorted on change received bc the till was inadequately stocked.
Needless to say I would NOT recommend this place to anyone I know, and will not...
