I've never posted a review before but Jalapenos Mexican Grill was the worst restaurant experience I've had in such a long time that it's necessary. The hostess sat multiple people back to back in front of us, got to us, and walked away from the station without saying a word? She finally found the time to come back just to tell us we had to wait for people to get their drinks before she could seat us at one of the many open tables. I understand covid is difficult to navigate but I have not been to one other restaurant that has operated like this. If they had a special situation going on it would've been fairly easy to explain and we would have been patient. I find it hard to believe they are worried about covid regulation since almost half the employees had their noses out of their masks. However, she told us to wait for others to get their drinks, explained nothing, turned and stood with her back to us at her post for our entire wait. Once she managed to figure out how to do her job she threw our menus on a table and walked away before we even got close to the table. (I've been a hostess and it's not rocket science, common courtesy and human decency are even easier skills to nail down). We waited almost 10 minutes for chips & water. By the time our waitress got around to bringing us our queso we had finished our small basket of chips. Asked for another and she said it would be $1.75 for another basket because they have to make them in house now due to a shortage. We eat out at mexican restaurants in Savannah about once a week. I find it really interesting this is the only restaurant we have been to that is facing a shortage or charging extra for stale chips. Our waitress should have informed us before we ordered a large queso, I'm not sure if she thought we would be willing to use our fingers instead? The food was lackluster and wouldn't be worth going back for even if the rest of the experience wasn't absolutely horrendous. SAVE YOUR MONEY DO NOT GO HERE. The Jalepenos on Broughton is worth the extra 3 mile drive. Amazing service, great food, and never...
Read moreBeen here a few times while headed in or out of Tybee. Usually pretty ok experience, but this morning/afternoon was not. We had a party of 11 at 11:00. We wanted to sit outside, no rush as they were still putting up tables outside. My wife jokingly told my 9yr old son to help the man with the chairs. The man “rudely” said no. Not a big deal, kinda rubbed my wife the wrong way. As he was moving tables he said we will have to sit our party at 2 different tables outside. I asked if we could sit together, he again in a not friendly manner said no. Again, this is now after they have opened and still waiting on him to move chairs around and move tables. The straw that broke the camels back for me, was I have a small 5 ft trailer that I parked in the parking lot that yes did take up 3 spots, but it’s a small parking lot, and I also had all of my camping/fishing/clothes on the trailer. So I wanted to be within eyesight of it. He came out and said I have to move my car to the road. I said I’ve got 11 people coming to eat and I don’t see the big deal parking In The PARKING LOT. He said I was going to have to move it. I proceed to say I wasn’t. He said I have to, so I said don’t worry we will take our 11 people to another restaurant. So we came to Cancun cafe II. And parked in their small parking lot, no problem. As a customer service job that depends on how you act to the customers, I would assume you would be a little more friendly. If he came at it a little different, with a friendlier tone, I might of been more inclined to move. The waitress was very nice, however he was not. As the “leader” of a business you should be more customer friendly. By the way, 11 people at around $12 a person, plus drinks, plus apps, plus tip would of been a descent way for a business to start their...
Read moreHorrible experience thanks to Joel the MANAGER. We left the beach of Tybee island to come into Jalepenos. It was me, my two small children, Fiancé and mom. I was wearing my fiancé’s shirt to cover my bathing suit so I went into the bathroom to get the kids changed. While I was in their my fiancé came in to look for me and grab his shirt. He informed them I was in the restroom with his shirt and would be right out. They made told him to wait outside. No big deal. While he was walking out there was a crowd of people in the waiting area. I guess he accidentally bumped into one of the other guests on the phone and not paying attention. He didn’t even realize he had done this. So when I came out of the bathroom the manager was standing there telling me we could not eat inside cause he didn’t have a shirt. I told him I was wearing his shirt and would return it to him. He then said my fiancé was drunk and we had to stay outside. I asked him why he felt that way he said because he bumped into another guest. I apologized and told my fiancé what he said and my fiancé was shocked too. He didn’t even realize he had done this. So I went inside and asked for the manager. I explained to him it was 90 degrees outside and I had two small children. If we could come in now that he has a shirt and didn’t realize he accidentally bumped into someone… he didn’t want to but said yes, clearly annoyed. We came in and sat down. When my fiancé tried to order a blue moon the server informed him she couldn’t serve him cause he was intoxicated. Let me say this, he had 4 beers while we were at the beach from 11am till when we got at the restaurant at 7pm. That is 8 hour time span. We just got up and left. The server and other staff were friendly. A bad manager can run a restaurant...
