I have lived 2 blocks from John Boy's fro 2 1/2 years and FINALLY tried them out for dinner last night. Glad I did.
If you are looking for a fancy place with super skinny people eating there - go somewhere else. This is a Southern Buffet that is a little run down and there were quite a few BIG folks bellied up to the bar gettin there $7.50 worth.
Last night (Wednesday) was Chicken Night. Fired Chicken (Outstanding), Chicken and Dressing (really good) and the best of everything on the buffet a baked chicken that must have been marinated in some sort of Italian dressing concoction.
On the bar was also: Pork chops (not the best) Mac n Cheese (average) Greens ( I dont eat greens) Fried Okra (3 Servings worth of great) Salad Bar (do NOT go for the ice burg lettuce salad bar DUH its suthern cookin')
Rolls (out of site and the only thing from the "Carb Bar" that I tried) Corn Bread Biscuits etc
Dessert Bar 2 Different Cheesecakes that they order in (The only thing I tried on the "Sugar Coma Bar" & yep they were great.) Cake etc
The place is ALWAYS packed when I drive by and the food and the price just showed me why.
Next time I am bringing my rail thin bottomless pit 12 and 10 year old sons and try to coax a big dude to challenge them to an eating contest. My boys would give Joey Chestnut a run...
Read moreFood was amazing! However, the lady chased my husband out of the restaurant for $2 after making her oen choice to not charge a price.😂😂 We're working parents of 8...paying for what we want isn't an issue!! I first told my server how old my daughter was, yet she opted to not to charge us for the food, but to charge us for my son and daughter's milk. She brought to the table a chocolate milk and sprite. The sprite was actually suppose to be white milk. When another server came to check on us, My husband asked for a Coke. I asked how much more was that, because I was already charged for a sprite we didn't need. So why not change it to coke???? Then charge me for the milk we didn't get. FAST FORWARD..she(the server who checked on us) replied "don't worry about the coke. We won't charge you for it. I'll just charge for two milk for the kids. Your meals came with tea." Long story short, food was good but I will not return!! I was watched as we left like I'd done something wrong. I was honest, but the...
Read moreFirst time for my husband, and first time for me in over 15 years. It was as fantastic as I remembered. Husband was very impressed...he loved the fried chicken, and all the country sides like collards, beans, mashed potatoes, fried okra. The salad bar has a nice variety, and is very fresh. Desserts are all good, but the cobbler is amazing!! Everything is kept stocked--salads are nice and cold, hot foods good and hot. The servers are lovely, especially Jackie. They make you feel so at home. The place is not real fancy, but it's clean and very cozy. I heard lots of friendly banter among the guests and staff, so it sounds like a lot of regulars. There is a menu that shows the everyday regular dishes, and then each day of the week has its own list of items. So now I know when they will have fish (Fridays) or fried chicken livers (Tuesdays). Pricing for seniors is $11 (and includes tea or coffee I believe, but we...
