We have wanted to go to Julep Farms for quite a while and decided that would be a great place to celebrate my husband’s birthday, so we went for dinner. Driving up to the property, there are cozy, new cabins, animals, pastures and gardens. Entering, we walked through a shop with cool and unique items and gift ideas, including beautiful jewelry, clothing, glass and barware, interesting books and all kinds of entertaining items that you never knew you needed but you actually do! There’s a coffee shop and pastries as well that I will definitely have to check out! The dining room is beautiful and comfortable. We were able to carry on a conversation which was a pleasant surprise. The atmosphere is relaxing and spacious with tall ceilings, an inviting bar and a beautiful fireplace which was elegantly decorated for the holidays. The views did not disappoint with mountains and a beautiful sky during sunset as the backdrop. This is also a venue for weddings and other celebrations, but it never felt “venue-y”. The aesthetics, architecture and landscaping were well appointed, upscale and thoughtfully placed. Beautiful environment. Bren was our waitress and she was super nice, present and did not rush us at any time. We appreciate her genuine personality and eye contact! She described the specials, gave us a moment to peruse the menu (everything looks absolutely amazing) and brought back a nice glass of Aviary Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. Delicious! By the way, if you buy a bottle of wine and do not finish it, you can take it home with you. I believe that’s what I was told and I think that is super cool! We had the Brie appetizer which consisted of smoked walnuts, toasted almonds, pecans, fig and cherry jam, pomegranate, and honey molasses, with grilled ciabatta bread, which was phenomenal. I am still craving! For dinner we had creamy beef and wild mushroom ravioli with a parmesan cream sauce and spinach and chicken paillard with sage brown butter, parmesan gnocchi and sautéed kale. We both got very quiet as we shared and enjoyed the flavors from our main course. Everything was cooked to perfection! Thank you Chef! To commemorate my husband‘s birthday, Bren brought out chess pie with whipped cream and strawberries, which was absolutely delicious and a perfect way to finish our meal. We met the owner, Lauren and the Manager, Jeff, both were very personable and kind. Jeff checked in on us to see how things were. No complaints here! Everyone was so accommodating and easy to talk with. It felt like we were enjoying an amazing dinner at a good friends house. So comfortable. The entire experience from the moment we walked in the front door until we left completely satisfied was such a treat! Thank you Julep Farms for making my husband’s day so special! We will definitely be back for date night, when friends come in town and when we want to pop in and hang out at the bar for a nice cocktail. By far, from Clayton and Franklin up to Highlands and Cashiers, Julep Farms is our favorite restaurant. We...

Just got back from a girl's weekend at Julep Farm. We stayed in the Maison Blanche cottage which was absolutely adorable! Decorated to the nines! The most disappointing part of our trip was Julip Kitchen. While it is a beautiful place I hope the owners see not only my review but several others complaining about the kitchen! Our server Bree was great and it was her first week or so there. Upon being seated we all ordered cocktails. I ordered their signature jalapeno margarita which was so spicy it was not drinkable! The server was so kind to get me another one and the second one tasted like straight lime juice with no alcohol. Once our dinner arrived, everything was cold! It was beautifully presented but two of us got short ribs and the mashed potatoes they were on were freezing. The three others got the tuna which was overcooked and their risotto was also cold. We did ask the server for some au jus to try to pour over our potatoes to make them warmer but they should have taken all of our meals back. Our server knew we were frustrated so she did send over the manager. He was not super empathetic and seemed annoyed, probably because he is used hearing a lot of complaints from patrons. He did offer to give us a gift certificate to come back but we were not interested in that. The funny thing was throughout our stay if we had encountered a bartender, employee, or other server throughout that area they all say that they heard through the grapevine that it's a toxic environment to work, they cannot keep chefs, the turnover is constant etc. I think that is truly giving the restaurant a terrible reputation. It has so much potential because the food could be so good, the atmosphere and views are amazing but I hope the owners take this to heart and figure out why they can't keep workers and work on serving hot foods because the prices are extremely expensive. If it wasn't for how cute the farm and the cottages are I would honestly say that kitchen should have gone out of...

[Update 12/21] Lowered back to 3, we feel confident this is where it remains unfortunetly.

[Update] Owner Rick gave me a call today to discuss my experience. He took full ownership and they are trying their hardest to get this place running well. I have added 1 additional star for him taking the time to discuss this. I’m excited to go back and watch this place improve. We need more places like this in the mountains!

The place I hate to love. We’ve been to Julep Farm three times this season and now having experienced many of the same issues during our times here I felt it may warrant a quick feedback session.

First off, their French fries are the true MVP of this place and their Ruben is divine. If you go here craving these two things you’ll be setup for some delicious times. Their chicken salad has a deliciously crafted croissant, but is followed with a chicken salad recipe that lacks in flavor.

Their cocktails have high hopes but could use a little more thought and for us seem to be overly sweet (but that may just be a thing done here).

The true disappointment however is in the client services. It seems as if they may be understaffed but more importantly undertrained in client success. We’ve had reservations each time and it has taken another 30 mins+ to be seated.

But that’s not the part that is frustrating, it’s when the staff are so busy to not acknowledge us. Flustered never comes off well.

Now listen, we’re going to keep coming back here because it’s perfectly located for a day adventure when we have friends or family in town. But these are the things we’d love to see improved upon so that we don’t need to caveat it to our friends when we do go.

The vibe is of course fun and great, and Post COVID we’d love to have drinks and play cornhole until dusk. Just give us a little easier of an experience.

In summary our group voted:

Our family has for decades done an annual Thanksgiving trip to Western North Carolina, and a few years ago we discovered Julep. After a busy Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of family activities, it is a nice respite from the holiday hubbub to get a few custom craft cocktails, and delicious food. The gift shop has a nice assortment of cookbooks, curios, candles, and probably some other things that start with the letter C. And this year it seems they’ve added a women’s boutique clothing area. You could say it’s a high end, less country Cracker Barrel: there are no electronic Santas saying “ho ho ho” as you walk by. But there are high end bottles of wine and nice cheese dishes. The dining room is modernly decorated and seats maybe 50. There’s a nice L-shaped bar in the corner with a great selection of spirits and why that seats maybe nine or 10 people. My bride and I like sitting at the bar when we spend time together. On this day, Malone took care of us. We had a selection of holiday cocktails, and snacks. The drinks were amazing, and Malone was engaging and fun to spend time with. At least one of the drinks I had was a custom creation on the spot. I said ”let’s go Holiday and Bourbon”, and she created something that was amazing. Should’ve written this review a month ago, and then perhaps I would’ve remembered what she called it. I described a place above that is potentially pretentious, but it is absolutely not that. Everybody is friendly and welcoming. I should also mention that before you go in, there is a very small petting area for some farm animals, and you can go over to the chicken coop and check out some really wild looking chickens. There’s a game area for things like oversized Connect Four, some cornhole lanes, and an area for kids to run around. I highly recommend a visit to Julep Farms if you’re ever in the area.
