I had been through Dillard and the area before and knew how beautiful it was. I decided, after reading reviews here, that this location seemed like a good option. Traveling with my wife and seven year old child.
Upon turning in, I was greeted by the owner. He was a true gentleman. I was impressed by the organization and cleanliness of the office as well as how nice the owner was. He made the process very easy and kept a smile and conversation the entire time. First impressions matter to me with my experience at motels and hotels so this was a good sign.
We were given room 105, a two queen bed, non-smoking room. Theu utilize the more modern door locks where the key card is held over the sensor to unlock.
I immedietly noticed the nice faux-wood floors. This is a huge thing for me as even when I stay at a Marriott or the Hilton, rugs gross me out. Upon inspecting the room, it was hard to even find a speck of dust. This room was of the cleanest I have ever experienced in my hundreds of hotel experiences. There was no masking any scents or mold issues. This is an older motel but they keep up with the maintenance and renovations really well. There are some things that are dated- the windows and air unit are what I noticed. Neither was a negative to me that would make me give a lower rating or anything.
The beds were clean and comfy along with the pillows. Also, they don't use those nasty old comforters, they elect for the modern blankets, which are washed after each use unlike the old style. The Bible in the room was clean and I was just happy there was one in the room as many hotels, even in the Deep South and Appalachia, no longer allow them placed. The TV was decent and was actually surprised to the amount of channels offered, I think it was Dish? The mini-fridge and the microwave were very clean and in great working order.
I wish we could have stayed longer, this place was awesome. And cost a LOT less than others I stayed at on this trip and this one surprised each expectation I had for it. Not sure if all rooms are renovated yet, but I will definitely be staying here again soon when we visit next and for a longer...
Read moreWhen I booked, it said the booking was for non-smoking room. When we arrived they didn’t have any non-smoking rooms. I have severe asthma that is triggered by just the smell of smoke. I agreed to view the room before deciding; the room of course reeked of cigarette and I knew I couldn’t spend the night there. The front desk attendant called the owner who kept insisting that it was my mistake and that I booked a smoking room; the attendant informed me that the manager did not think a refund was warranted and told me to call Expedia to see if they would refund it. I pulled up the email confirmation I received that said the booking was guaranteed for a “non-smoking room” and the attendant seemed surprised and was agreeable to reach out to the manager again. The manager was not nice about it; the attendant infomef him that he confirmed that the email confirmation I recipe was for NSR. Even then, the manager could not care less and refused to issue a refund. When I contacted Expedia, they basically said that the manager had to agree to the refund to them and they would contact them the next day (we arrived late, after 10 PM).
Meanwhile, I found a hassle-free stay in the much cleaner and much nicer Days Inn in Clayton. I was actually glad we were forced to change once I saw the facilities were much nicer.
Needless to say, I never received a refund. The manager clearly is arrogant and more than anything seemed extremely bothered that he had to deal with me even though they or Expedia actually messed up on my booking. I know the booking was for a non-smoking room and the email confirmation verified this; the least they could’ve done is acknowledge their goof up, but even better would have...
Read moreI'm basing this on the fact that we paid $60 for a 2 queen bed room. For that money, you shouldn't be expecting much, but what we got made the price an absolute bargain.
Good: The room and bathroom were spotless. Not a single hair was found in the bathroom. I've been in rooms costing 6 times this much that couldn't manage that. The TV has a decent selection of channels with none of the hotel TV menu garbage that try to get you to buy video games or movies. Just turn it on, and it works like a normal TV. I've stated in rooms and not bothered with the TV because if the confusing menus. The mini-fridge is actually pretty big. Nice! The cute it the back window is actually a nice view of the ridgeline behind the inn. There's even a little playground out front next to the pool. Within SHORT walking distance is a Fred's, Piggly Wiggly, Ace and Cupboard Case restaurant. The first three basically share the same parking lot. The restaurant (which is excellent) is one lot over.
The bad:. Remember, this is a $60 room. The building is quite old, and it does show. It didn't effect our stay, but you won't mistake this for new construction. The breakfast is bare minimum, and many won't find it acceptable. There were prepackaged honey buns, mini-fridge muffins, pancakes and bagels. Cereal and coffee rounded things out. Not terrible, but not impressive, either. Certainly not a deal breaker.
Conclusion: I don't travel to Dillard to hang out in a hotel. I simply need a place for me, my wife and 4 kids to sleep. There are MUCH more expensive places you can stay, but for the money, this place is spot on. We'll likely...
