Update: April 23rd. "Will Success Spoil Ray?". This morning I stopped by and again, the line was 'out the door'. I ordered the 'usual dozen' but the cost was not $7.95...but $8.50 a dozen. "Fair enough", I thought. Then I was billed $11.00. Seems that 'success' has gotten to "Ray' and he is taking a profit on the "fritters"...and his trademark "free donut holes" not available on this visit...or the one before. "Value", Ray...learn about "value" and the "profit" will come. WATCH for More...something has happening at this icon and I hope it's for the better!! (Previous review follows) Fascinating to see the 1-Star because the place is "sold out"! Fact is that these are the "best" and this includes a 5-Star place in Salt Lake City!! The staff is not "cranky"...but always working hard to keep up with the demand. The story is that this is "Ray's father's recipe"...and he is honoring his Dad with each one of these things. A great bargain for one dozen...and this usually includes a generous bonus of "glazed donut holes". I won't tell you about "my favorite" so there are some there for me tomorrow morning when I take two dozen to a...
Read moreI can't believe I haven't been to this place yet! I'm supposed to be the donut guy 🤣. This place is top notch and is one of my new favorites!
Some notes These are the sugary yeast based donuts (my favorite). The fritters are crazy good and they have a few different kinds which you don't see that often. Pricing is about average compared to other places Filled donuts are packed with filling!
I will definitely be back to try more! Pictured are the strawberry filled, old fashioned and crumb cake and apple fritter!
EDIT Something I noticed more the second time, is that there is a sweeter flavor in their icing, which can make the donuts feel heavier and more filling. I noticed myself slowing down more than I usually do 🤣. So if you are not a fan of overly sweet donuts you may want to choose wisely. They still taste...
Read moreMy wife and I stopped by this small donut shop run by a mom and daughter. As we stood there watching a couple of women order 6 boxes of donuts, the delicious smells wafting off the donuts completely enticed us.
Mom was extra friendly and helpful, even before we told her it was our first visit to their shop. Just to sample a bit, we got a maple log and two dozen donut holes. When she rang us up, I was shocked at the total! We are used to the prices of other donut franchises or bakeries that sell donuts, but at Ray's Donut Shop a dozen glazed donuts is half the price!
Let's just end this review like this: the 🍩 holes were so good, my wife ran back in for two more dozen before we left the parking lot. We will definitely be back often and tell everyone how awesome...
