Located in a strip mall on the corner of Canton Hwy and Jamerson Rd, its easy not to give this place a second thought. For transparancy reasons I will state now that I use to work here about 2 years ago and to this day I am still ordering the food because it really is just that good. I know there is the old saying not to work at a restaurant if you ever want to eat there agian but it doesnt apply here.
Sam, the owner, is rideculous in how much he wants his customers to be satisfied. He goes out in the morning to get fresh produce some of which is organic because he says the quality is the best and he wants his customers to be happy (it wont tell you on the menu and he does not pass the cost to the customer). All produce is cut fresh in the morning and then again mid afternoon. Rice is made fresh 2 times a day as well as the complimentary salads. The meat is also prepped daily.
All curry sauces, thai tea, egg rolls, crab ragoon, salad dressing, sweet and sour sauce, peanut sauce, stirfry sauce, fried shirmp roll, chicken satay, etc. are made in house. (Which was fun because I got to learn how to make all of those things). All shelf stable items are imported directly from Thailand. Time really is put into the food. The kitchen staff never stops cooking and they never stop cleaning either.
I am sure some of the items are not as authentic as you would find in Bangkok but lets be fair we are in Marietta, Ga some considerations need to be made for the locals here. Regardless, the curries are savory and addictive. The noodle dishes are chewy and satisfactory and the sushi is very good, esp. for the area. My fav dish is the fried rice which crisps up just right in the wok. Sam also does a great job making the sushi rice too which for me can make or break a sushi experience. He cuts the fish daily (when the sushi bar is open) and as for the salmon he butchers the entire fish himself.
I have noticed some frustrations with the sushi hours but try to be understanding. Sam is doing it by himself and he is working really hard. We all need a day off. He really cares about his customers happiness and he loves his job. He still hasnt raised prices (even though we have told him he needs to) and so if you want an experince with delicious food, reasonable prices, and friendly atmosphere go here. Support a local who really does his best.
Ps. I have not been offered anything for this review. Sam doesnt even know I am posting this. It is just...
Read moreCame again after a few years and there are improvements hence I will improve my rating. Overall the Thai curries were good and a family favorite but I still feel it needed more punch. Veggies were fresh and the service was fast. The basil roll was a pop of flavor and rolled to perfection.
The Thai tea was good after they remade it with less milk. After that you could taste the tea! What made the tea even better was the main course.
Traditional Thai food is spicy. Here you can get it spicy if perhaps a little too spicy. Once your mouth starts to burn the Thai tea really does its job.
I ordered a Massaman Curry which was tasty but a little too salty. I have never had curry before that was too salty so this was a new experience. The veggies were crispy and fresh and they were generous with the cashews.
Lastly I felt bad for our server. He did everything but cook. He took care of several tables, handled all the take out orders, answered the phones, did tasks for the owner and ran all the checks with a smile. I was never lacking for service but I feel like the owners could bring in more help. When I checked I was told No...
Read moreI don't know what happened to my favorite local Thai place. I placed my usual order, but absolutely nothing in the order was good.
The first disappointment was the potstickers. I normally get these pan-fried, but I was told that was not an option anymore. That should have been my first clue. These are usually the best thing on the menu. Instead, they were just over-fried. The filling was good, the wrapper - not so good.
That was soon followed by an even bigger disappointment - the crab rangoon. The fried part was just OK, but the filling had an ingredient that just left a bad taste in my mouth.
By far the biggest disappointment was the entrée - thePad Thai with chicken and shrimp. I usually love this, but it wasn't appetizing at all when I opened the container. It just looked completely soggy with no hint at all of the other ingredients that should come in it like bean sprouts, peanuts and green onions. It was just soggy noodles and a few carrots. And the taste was terrible. The noodles were overdone. It just ended up...
