It was my first time and night in Jekyll Island and after a long drive from Atlanta I was ready for some fresh seafood for dinner and a gorgeous view. I went to search engines and the Wharf had good reviews and a killer view, we tried to make reservations but there was no availability through Open Table. Lesson learn, make your reservations a few weeks prior to your trip, especially when your dining options are limited on an island. Thankfully the restaurant was accepting walk ins, we were told 1 hour but were sat in 30 minutes, the inside and outside were pretty packed due to the restaurant spacing out the tables. We were super lucky and were sat outside right at sunset, the outside area is open and they had live music that Friday night. Service was fantastic! Everyone from the hostess, bartender, and waiter made us feel welcome. We loved it so much we wanted to dine there our second night in town also but decided to change it up. The two guys playing live music just made the night extra special, we felt like we were in a movie or something, delicious food, sunset view, tropical cocktails, and great service. It was a 5 star experience. Food: we started with the smoked fish dip for $14 and included butter crackers with garden dill (OMG let’s just say we each wanted our own order of this fish dip.) only thing we needed was more crackers. J It was perfectly seasoned and a nice portion. I was on vacation so I decided to treat myself so I ordered the Fried Seafood Platter for $23, it came with shrimp, cod, oysters, coleslaw, and fries. Each item was absolutely delicious and the fried seafood was battered perfectly and seasoned. At first look I thought the portion was small but after a few bites it was more than enough food. And guess what….I actually ate the coleslaw, it was tasty! Drinks: The Bee Knees was our favorite it’s Gin, Rosemary-Honey syrup, and lemon $10, my sister also enjoyed the Georgia Peach – Bourbon, peach liquor, and lemon juice $11, and I also enjoyed the Jekyll Hop Dang Diggity IPA on draft for $7.

We drove up to Jekyll Island at night from Orlando and our first destination was The Wharf. We arrived at 830pm, the parking lot was a short walk down the dock to the restaurant. We saw a sign for dolphin sighting boat tours and thought that would be great in warmer weather. We walked in and immediately thought, 'what a beautiful restaurant'. The hostess asked if we preferred a booth or a table. I jokingly mentioned we wanted to sit outside (it was 40 degrees out) but would take a booth. Our server Jenny, was really helpful and just fabulous. She recommended some entries as we almost always order fish dip when it's on any menu. The fish dip had great flavor and a creamy texture. It was served with crackers in a circular cup. For dinner, the children had chicken fingers. My son asked for Mac n' Cheese instead of fries and they were able to accommodate it which was really nice. I stole a bite of the Mac n' Cheese and it was delicious. Definitely not box stuff. The chicken fingers were also very good, the breading had flavor, a nice crisp and the chicken was still moist. I had the maple glazed Salmon which was cooked a perfect medium. I've been eating a lot of salmon lately and this was probably one of my favorites. The candied ginger pecan crumble was flavorful and provided quite a combination of texture and crunch. I ate and enjoyed the entire dish, there was nothing left. I also tasted the Soba bowl, the total combination was perfect especially on a cold night. I was a little jealous. The shrimp, noodles and broth were delicious. On our way out Jenny provided some recommendations for places to check out while in town and was super friendly. Definitely some southern hospitality. Thank You Jenny!

A little local's tip if you're visiting Jekyll Island: This place has the best sunset view in all of the Golden Isles. If you're worried about not having a reservation, plan to arrive before sunset and grab a drink - walk it down to the dock and watch the magic. If you're a history buff, note that this same spot was historically the Jekyll Island Club yacht warf. Here anchored the most luxurious pleasure craft in the world during the existence of the original Jekyll Island Club, 1886-1942. No other yacht was comparable to John Pierpont Morgan's several Corsairs. Corsair II, too large to dock, anchored in the channel. Morgan was escorted ashore by a flotilla of small craft, after a cannon had sounded off his arrival in these waters. Corsair II was 304 ft. overall, beam 33 1/2 ft., draft 17 ft., speed 19 knots, tonnage 1,600. About this Corsair Morgan, when asked how much it cost, made his classic remark: "If you have to consider the cost you have no business with a yacht." Other palatial yachts owned by Jekyll Island Club members were: Pierre Lorillard's Caimen, James Stillman's Wanda, Astors' Nourmahal, Vanderbilt's Alvah and Valiant, H. Manville's Hi Esmaro, Jr., Pulitzer's Liberty, George F. Baker's Viking, E. T. Stotesbury's Castle, Cranes' Illyria, Theodore N. Vail's Speedwell and Northwind, Commodore Frederick Bourne's Marjorie, Goulds' Hildegards, Saono, and Ketchum. Edwin Gould built a private dock in front of his cottage, "Chichota." Andre Carnegie, whose family owned Cumberland Island, visited Jekyll on yachts, Skibo and Missoe.

The Wharf on Jekyll Island: A Delightful Waterfront Experience (with Delicious Shrimp!) Setting the Scene: Jekyll Island is a charming coastal escape, and The Wharf restaurant perfectly captures its essence. Located right on the historic Jekyll Pier, it offers stunning water views and a relaxed, nautical atmosphere. My Experience: I recently had the pleasure of dining at The Wharf, and it was a delightful experience. The fresh air, beautiful scenery, and friendly service set the stage for a truly enjoyable evening. The Star of the Show: I opted for the shrimp boil, and it did not disappoint! The shrimp were perfectly cooked, fresh, and bursting with flavor. The accompanying sides hush puppies and garlic eggs were delicious complements to the main course. Beyond the Food: The Wharf boasts an impressive drink selection, and I opted for a bloody Mary and a beer. It was the perfect way to unwind and take in the beautiful views. Overall Impression: The Wharf on Jekyll Island is a fantastic choice for anyone seeking a delicious meal in a stunning waterfront setting. The food was excellent, the service was friendly, and the atmosphere was perfect for a relaxing evening. Highly Recommend: I highly recommend The Wharf to anyone visiting Jekyll Island. Well, I've read the mixed reviews and am compelled to share a phenomenal experience. First off, I was there about half an hour before the rush and the service I received was remarkable. Both friendly and attentive from the greeting to the bar tender to the waitstaff. I had a crab cake that was absolutely delicious, followed by a generous low country boil served in a pot with lots of everything, definitely could be split by normal-sized humans. I absorbed copious amounts of sweet tea, brought diligently each time my glass hit the .25 mark. Finally, I cleansed the palate with good old Georgia pecan pie I can only describe as sublime. I wished I had room for a second slice. My visit was amazing. I will say, locals and visitors alike were pouring onto the wharf as I was leaving and the restaurant had filled up while I ate, so reviewers who have gotten spoiled by empty covid-era restaurants may resent that their server now has to manage more than two tables, but the seafood and service were brilliant for me.
