Detroit Coney Grill — Restaurant in Gilbert

I love this place. My husband and I have been a fan of this business since it started in Tempe on Broadway many years ago and we're very excited David opened up a location right by our house. Honestly, it's dangerous to have his location nearby because we are tempted to break diet here often. Here are a couple reasons why you should check out Detroit Coney Grill - 1) the food. David is from Detroit and he had picks the favorites from his home and brings it here. I believe even down to the chips, they are a Detroit-local brand. He uses these hot dogs that just have great snap to them. The chili has great spice to it and ground up meat so you get a good blend for toppings on your Coney. The bun is always soft and you can use to sop up some extra chili. Now, if you get a side...sure you can get fries or onion rings - they make 'em good...but I suggest you really try the curly fries. Always fresh from the fryer crispy and seasoned to perfection (not overpowering but can be eaten on its own without ranch or ketchup). Very complimentary to the Coney Island hot dog. They have plant based options for my vegan friends out there, and this is always a plus. We have had their burgers before back in Tempe and we buy them if friends want the order (again good if you get that melted cheese on it) but my heart always sings for the hot dogs. 2) The prices. You cannot go wrong with the meal deals. My husband and I like to get the 2 hot dog special to split (I don't think it even hits $10 if I remember correctly) but note: I think it's only offered in restaurant/not online. Good quality for a low amount of money. 3) The people - David always hires quality staff at any location and they're always very sweet and understanding - even one time when I had a misunderstanding with an order. They are very patient and at the end of the day, I appreciate how down-to-earth the team is. 4) Good location where there's tons of parking and it's nearby downtown Gilbert or even close to highways . The vibes are always chill but note that they always have tvs with sports on. My hubby likes to watch games occasionally with friends there. Or if you go to the park kitty corner, you can walk over for lunch. Or if you like to grab a hot dog before or after hitting up Goodwill, again...just convenient. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for good Coneys and chill vibes. Amazing all around! We had a special event there after graduation a few weeks ago and they went so far above & beyond for this huge crew of tired & loud & hungry staff and teachers from the high school across the way. I was so impressed by the owner and all of the employees I quickly knew I’d be back to support a wonderful neighboring local business…and then my food got there and know for sure this is going to be my new favorite place! Those were some of the best onions rings I have ever had in my life which might not seem so impressive a declaration to the average person but I am old & I really like onion rings so I order them all the time so yes I say that with absolute authority. Would give zero stars if I could!!! I have been nothing but disappointed with this business. Do not bring your family or friends here unless of course you want to leave feeling worse than when you got there. I got yelled at by manager for a review that I DID NOT put there while I WAS ON LUNCH. This is MY honest review... I have found hair in two of my meals. A coworker found a WHOLE STAPLE. The cook clearly doesn't wear a beard guard or check the prep table. My fries always have way too much salt. Zucchini are so thick that batter is soggy. There have been multiple employees here that are always being yelled at by this manager. I would never work for your company, and I see why your turnover is so high. There were other ways to handle the situation today, and that is why I initially left my reviews off the Internet from ALL my bad experiences.
