I was very disappointed with both the restaurant and the quality of service. I visited twice—once with a friend and the second time with my family and children—and both experiences were terrible.
The ordering system is inconvenient. You place your order at the counter, sit down, and then wait to be called to pick up your food. The real issue is that dishes come out one by one. While this may be manageable for a small party of two, it’s extremely frustrating when dining with multiple families or children. You end up getting up repeatedly to collect individual dishes, so one person eats while the others wait. In Indian dining culture, the joy of eating together is in sharing a meal at the same time—but here, by the time I finished my food, my friend’s meal was just being served.
To make matters worse, both times they forgot to include a dish in our order. When I went to ask about it, the staff seemed unsure whether it had been placed, checking with the kitchen for confirmation. On my last visit, my Gobi Manchurian was never served, and since we had already finished eating, I asked to cancel it. Instead, they insisted on preparing it to go, even though that dish is best enjoyed fresh and hot.
The food itself was also disappointing. Several items were served lukewarm—particularly the dosa, which should never be at room temperature. While I understand some dishes take time to prepare, the restaurant clearly needs a better system to ensure food is served hot and in a timely manner.
The restaurant layout adds to the chaos. Customers stand in line to order, but many hover around the counter waiting for their food, creating congestion and blocking others. The cutlery and napkins are located on the opposite side of the restaurant, forcing you to cut through the crowd just to grab essentials like forks or water.
Overall, the food quality was below expectations. Even though we requested medium spice, the dishes were excessively hot—enough to cause discomfort. There are many other restaurants in the area offering far better food and service, and I would highly recommend exploring...
Read moreI was in the area with some friends when they started raving about a new restaurant that had just opened a week ago. To my surprise, it turned out to be a branch of a famous Indian chain that’s made its way across the U.S. — and now, finally, to Chandler, Arizona! The place is massive, and so is the menu. The interiors are bright, quirky, and fun — it definitely sets a lively tone for your dining experience.
Their menu covers a wide range, from North Indian classics to South Indian staples, and even Indo-Chinese favorites. You can sip on Irani chai while digging into some spicy Manchurian — it’s got something for everyone. We visited around 9:30 PM, and despite the late hour and crowd, the staff were courteous and welcoming. Since it’s a self-serve setup, you order at the counter and wait for your name to be called.
We tried quite a few dishes — masala dosa, rava dosa, Schezwan and Hakka noodles, garlic naan, malai kofta, gobi Manchurian, veg Manchurian, and paneer biryani. My favorites? The dosas were a standout — huge, perfectly crispy, and served with flavorful chutneys, sambar, and curry. Their Indo-Chinese offerings were also excellent; both the noodles and Manchurian were well-spiced and delicious — definitely on the spicier side, but we loved it. The one miss for me was the paneer biryani — it didn’t quite hit the mark, so I’d skip that next time.
If you’re looking to satisfy all your Indian food cravings in one place, this spot delivers. I just hope they maintain the quality and consistency — if they do, I can see this place being a big success. Definitely my new go-to for a flavorful Indian fix!
One tip: I’d really recommend avoiding plastic containers for hot food. I understand the need for to-go packaging, but receiving steaming hot Hakka noodles in a plastic container was a bit concerning. It would be great to see more food-safe or eco-friendly alternatives...
Read moreHello! I usually never ever give a negative feedback or review because I understand it takes an incredible amount of hardwork and efforts in planning the process and operations of a restaurant. We have been excited about Desi Chowrastha in Phoenix, AZ as we love the LAS VEGAS branch so much. Unfortunately, with our experience today on August 24,2025 around 2 pm- were extremely disappointed as we entered the restaurant as it looked more like a food court rather a culinary experience. The AIR CONDITION was NOT turned on in Phoenix Summer where the temperature’s outside are hovering around 110’s. We legit saw customers sitting beside using paper plates to blow air. We just wanted to finish eating as early as we can and get out of place for some air. Extremely brutal with the cutlery- the food is delivered in to go boxes ( extremely heartbreaking compared to Las Vegas) the plastic plates, forks and spoons completely ruined the experience of trying the food in a restaurant setting. We ordered curry leaf chicken and chowrastha chicken fry pulao, which were okay but we would never try again! We are so disappointed that Desi Chowrastha with such good authentic South Indian Food and ambience in multiple locations across the States is just another INDIAN FOODCOURT in East Valley:( The only suggestion I would give to anyone who wants to try this place is THIS IS A TAKEAWAY INDIAN FOODCOURT and NOT AN AUTHENTIC INDIAN RESTAURANT!!!!
Ps - I missed taking the pictures on inside, here is the food that is delivered sorry picked up at the counter delivered by staff who were least interested in serving...
