My wife, son, and I ordered the Bourbon Bacon, the Classic with Onion Rings, and the Cheesesteak, respectively. My wife also ordered some of their tea, and I tried both their Root Beer and Cherry Coke.
From the outset, the establishment was in a state of disarray. Metal pans used to serve the entrees were piled up above the trash cans, and the music playing inside the store was excessively loud, rendering communication difficult, particularly with the order taker at the front counter.
The order taker was absent for the initial minute we stood at the counter. When he finally arrived, barely making eye contact, he appeared to have difficulty comprehending our orders and the order taking computer. He had to search for an extended period to locate “Cheesesteak” on the computer and struggled to grasp the necessary questions to fully take our orders. We felt compelled to guide him through the process of “entree, side, drink.” (It is possible that he could have attempted to upsell their shakes as dessert, but this never occurred, and by the time we had endured the arduous task of placing our entree orders, we were too fatigued to consider dessert.) When the computer prompted us for the amount of tip we wanted to give, he swiftly reached across and tapped “none” before we could respond.
I filled my cup with root beer, which was noticeably watered down. I then tried cherry coke, which was also diluted.
We subsequently sat down at one of the most unstable tables I have ever experienced while dining. We waited patiently, observing approximately a dozen other patrons also waiting. A woman with her daughter stood at the counter, visibly shaken from having waited before our arrival. In summary, the time elapsed between when the cashier rang up our order and its eventual delivery was a substantial hour.
While we waited, the same cashier who had processed our order also had to operate as waiter and deliver the finished orders to the tables. This required him to call out patrons’ names to identify their orders.
Approximately two-thirds of the patrons reported receiving incorrect orders upon delivery. In such instances, a kitchen staff member would often assist the bewildered cashier/waiter in resolving the confusion and delivering the correct orders. One kitchen staff member even approached me to inquire about the type of cheese I desired on my cheesesteak.
Upon receiving our correct orders, we discovered that the food did not resemble the photographs on the menu. It was excessively greasy, and my son’s onion rings were undercooked and lacked flavor. My wife’s Bourbon Bacon Burger was cold in certain areas.
The restaurant staff appeared disheveled, unkempt, exhausted, and unclean. On two separate occasions, kitchen staff members were seen refilling their own water containers at the drink dispenser located in the dining area.
Incidentally, I had requested onions and bell peppers on my cheesesteak, but I received jalapeños instead, which I removed.
A slight respite from this mess came from our fellow patrons at a nearby table who pointed out to me when they saw that I finally received my order and had taken a bite of the greasy mess that the wall of the restaurant above them was emblazoned with the phrase “worth the wait” and asked me whether my order was indeed worth the wait. I responded saying that it, unfortunately was not and that time is money and, if anything, my cheesesteak would have had to be the size of a small car to equal the amount of time I had to wait for it to be of equal value. We all laughed.
Due to these significant issues, we have decided not to return to this...
Read moreI've been to Wayback Burger now going on 6 times. I've really really given it a chance as I live in the apartment complex behind it so it's convenient to grab a bite. These kids have messed up my meal 6 out of 6 times and quality has been mediocre. My first time here they messed up my burger 3x in a row. It was actually comical as that has never happened to me before. On top of the insane wait time between 15-25 minutes when there's only a few people in the establishment is wild. As a business owner and someone who has a lot of experience in training I think there's a huge management/leadership void at this establishment as I can over hear the frustration and unorganization in the back. They just aren't efficient and trained well. I do pray for the owner as I'm extremely good at noticing faults in businesses that lead to a failed business. I don't want to see another Gilbert restaurant fall, but if you don't invest in the right things and get quality people around your business that's what happens. Best of luck but 6X is the charm for me. I tried to give you guys a real shot. Good luck. (Updated) Got home after speaking with the manager and how they messed my meal up again. 45 minutes weight. Cashier kid with black glasses gives me attitude for not listening to menu direction and added mustard to my burger. He takes my burger and remakes it so I thought. I get home and he freaking scraped the mustard off my burger and handed it back to me. Lmao. I'm in shock. I want to go back and drill them, but honestly I'm done. Washing my hands of this place. I don't like to talk bad about a business, but wow I'm so shocked at how bad this place is. You swiped my mustard off my burger and gave it back to me? What if I was allergic? Such a dumb move kid. Oh and didn't even offer me any incentive for messing up my meal and waiting...
Read moreWe had no idea this new burger place had opened up near our favorite movie theater and decided to give it a try today before a movie. The restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere with plenty of seating. The staff were very friendly and were happy to offer suggestions when asked. We each got the Classic Burger and as we were waiting for our food to be served I was thinking what is the point of this place, I mean there are many burger places out there with good choices. The burgers arrived and I had my answer. What Wayback Burgers offers is a very tasty well made high quantity burger, and tasty fries and at for a really good price point. So it’s not the best burger in the world but it is a very good burger and a decent price. We will be going back to try some of there other offerings in the near future.
I don’t usually add to my reviews but I believe Wayback Burgers deserves it.
I have to say my wife and I have become regulars now and it is our favorite sit down burger place and I would take them over almost any other burger. What I have noticed and what have brought us back a few times now is how fresh the food is. The buns are always soft and fresh and the flavors are well balanced and delicious. The service is amazing as well and they are helping and very efficient. I can’t recommend them enough. A great burger at a good...
