pay no mind to the haters... this is a good little spot to stop for a decent meal at a reasonable price.
I work at home permanently so the only time the world sees me is when I venture out of the cave for food. Love Hawaiian is right up the street and I hit up their lunch special frequently. It's an awesome deal as the food quality is much higher than anything else you'll get in the $10-$16 range in this neighborhood. People often compare them with Ono Hawaiian BBQ and I'd say they're very similar, but I feel Love BBQ has more flavor. Ono's food is kind of bland and relies heavily on their sauce table. Love BBQ definitely has the better atmosphere. While Ono is manned by a bunch of angry teenagers, Love BBQ is family owned and operated. I'm frequently served more timely with a better attitude. I adore the couple that runs this joint, they're sweet people that are truly invested in your experience and it's evident in their work. They obviously appreciate getting business, whereas the children at big chain restaurants like Ono just want you to die and stop ordering food. lol...
The dining room is always clean, the music and atmosphere are chill, and the food is delicious. Never mind it's one of the few places that have decent sweet tea... Is it the best BBQ I ever had? nah, but it's certainly one of the best restaurants I've visited. It's easily one of my favorite places to eat in this neighborhood. If you were visiting and I took you out someplace nearby, Love Hawaiian BBQ is very likely where...
Read moreI've been trying a bunch of local Hawaiian BBQ spots in the area outside of Ono and I've stumbled across a few good ones, but this is not one of them. For starters, I ordered a very basic meal and it was absolutely drenched in salty teriyaki sauce. I had the Teriyaki chicken and BBQ beef, but I couldn't tell if the beef was actually BBQ due to it being drowned in the teriyaki sauce. Note to owners: serve the sauce on the side. The chicken was kind of tough and the beef was actually half decent, but overall nothing special. Compared to other places, they only gave me one scoop of white rice as opposed to 2 scoops. The mac salad was pretty bland too...it's like the one thing that could actually use more salt. I didn't even bother eating the veggies. The place was absolutely dead during lunch hour which should have been my first sign to run right back out the door but I bravely ventured in...knowing I'd likely regret that decision shortly thereafter. Go with your gut, or do what I did and brave the unknown. You'll never know if you don't try. To anybody reading this review, there is a place called T&Y Hawaiian BBQ just a couple minutes down the street. I'd highly urge anyone looking for a decent bite to go there instead, it was amazingly tasty compared to this place and I ordered the exact same meal. Won't be coming back personally, but go if you...
Read moreSo today was my first visit to this location. Sad to announce that I'm disappointed with the service & the food. The lady at the register said they cook the meat fresh when you order. LIES!!!! I stood there and watched the guy in the back near the grill preparing my food, he never picked meat from the grill that was hot & cooking. He went to the counter where the metal pots were covered and got the chicken from there. It was less than room temperature by the time he prepared it and gave it to the lady at the register. I reopened the bag to look at my food and it had no aroma like Hawaiian BBQ Chicken from other places (Kahuna or ONO) It was cold, rice was clumpy as if it was day old rice and barely warm, the macaroni salad was full of mayonnaise with no flavor. The veggies was soaking in teryaki sauce from my meat and appeared to be wither with no crunch as steamed vegtables. I will not return to this location (67th & Bethany Home Rd) If I ever decide to give it a 2nd chance it will definitely have to be another location. Then again, thinking twice about it, I don't want food poisoning because the meat is not at proper...
