I wouldn't label this restaurant family friendly. After a very long drive today (we are on a road trip) my four year old started to have a meltdown over something trivial while we were eating. My husband and I were actively working on getting her calmed down (she is normally extremely well behaved in restaurants-like we consistently have people stop by our table to say how well behaved she is when we eat out- so this was kind of new territory for us). The manager I believe came over to our table and rudely hissed at us that she needed to be removed until she calmed down. I had already been getting prepared to remove her myself but it was cold outside and I was exhausted and hungry and trying to avoid it. While I am very conscious about affecting those around me, almost everyone around us also had children and the way we were spoken to was as if she was rolling around on the ground screaming and throwing things and we were just sitting there ignoring it. There was a much nicer way she could have asked us that if people were in fact complaining - of course I removed her at that point and sat outside with her while my husband packed us up as obviously we weren't going to continue to eat there after that exchange.

In addition to that the service before that wasn't very good and the food was mediocre and expensive. Should have trusted the bad reviews because I agree with them about service and food quality.

1 star granted because the Bloody...

Wife and I ate there Sunday Oct 2, 2016 for lunch. Service was good, Sandra our waitress was friendly, you just have to talk normal to a waitress and not pretend she is your servant. We got along just fine, and joked around. The special was "Mussels" that day. I ordered them and wife ordered Clam Chowder. Both were good, but the wife kept taking my mussels. So I took some of her Chowder. We sat at a table by ocean facing side of the restaurant. The black berry pie was excellent with ice cream on top. All the staff that we dealt with were very nice, including the cashier. We complimented her on the good food. We got there a little before noon, place was near empty..when we left at 1 pm, the place was pretty much full. Our seat had a nice view of the bridge and the bay. We will return again...stay away from the lunch crowds, and you will have...

Great atmosphere, cool spot, very friendly staff...the food just didn't hit the mark. We've always wanted to visit the Porthole Cafe but have never had the opportunity; we weren't missing much. We were a group of 4 and 1 child, the restaurant wasn't busy so service was quick with utensils, menus and drinks (if you're going in for a beer, do it!). The food took an expected amount of time to arrive but was disappointing; the fries were unseasoned, the fish was dry and flavorless, the oysters (which were deep fried so I was intrigued) were gummy and bland and just not good. Everyone at my table had something to say about their dish...none positive. I'm not one to complain to the waitress and make a deal of it; taking a dish off the tab never seems to be an option, it's always an offer to remake the dish, but who wants to eat after...

In a town (Gold Beach) of far and few good options, Porthole falls into the good options. Wide menu, decent food quality, large selection of craft beers, nice wait staff, and a comfortable yet good looking, thematic interior design. I had a Fish Sando ($14) and clam chowder ($7) both were pretty good. I had tater tots with the sandwich which I would pass on next time. The fish (Ling Cod) was great, not sure of its the same batter as the “Fish and chip” dish though My wife had a Tuna Melt ($17) which she said was good. My advice would be add a few domestic beers, not everyone is a fan of craft. (I know I will probably get slated for that comment)

The Port Hole is a nice little cafe with a wonderful view of the water. Parking here is plenty and easy to find. When we arrived for dinner around 6pm in mid October on a Friday evening there was no wait; however, the restaurant had a comfortable amount of activity going on. The staff here are friendly and helpful. You can absolutely tell that this is a favorite of the locals in the area as they are all chatting and engaging with one another. If you are looking for a quick and easy sit down meal in Gold Beach this is a good stop and we’ll definitely be back when we’re in the area.

First time at Port Hole Cafe. Upon entering the restaurant, I first noticed how it was nice it was decorated and how clean it was. The hostess was pleasant (hope her knee heals fast) and the seating was decent. There were several other patrons eating but we got a nice table at the window. Our waitress was awesome and very attractive to our needs. 3 of the 4 at my table ordered the daily special, Ling Cod with salad and sweet potato fries. I ordered the Fried Seafood Platter. The consensus was, YUM! No room for dessert though..... would definitely return when in the area again.
