South Coast Deli-Patterson — Restaurant in Goleta

Chose at random looking for a beach lunch in the area. I guess not totally random since we read the reviews. Very busy spot at lunch with walk ups, call-ins, and I think deliveries. But staff seemed to handle it pretty well. Big menu with lots of delicious sounding choices, including some unique ingredient combos. Seems they make a lot of their own sauces. Wife loves pastrami so she chose the Dar’s Sky High-pastrami, Swiss, 1000 island, and slaw. I went with the Robert Emmet which is applewood ham, provolone, red onion, lettuce, tomato, Italian dressing, and in house made basil Mayo on Italian roll. I chose to omit the pepperoncinis. Having been a deli man for many years I will say this place has it down. Both sandwiches were delicious, mine especially. The combo of the dressing with the Mayo was really tasty. As was the really fresh roll. One caveat-if you get a sandwich with these or other dressings, if you won’t be eating them for a bit, order without or with a lesser amount. We drove about 12 minutes before eating and the sands were just on the edge of being a bit wet. Don’t let that stop you but you’ve been warned. Also chose to add a walnut brownie and that was a good call, if a bit too gooey....

I generally enjoy the food at South Coast and have eaten here 10 times. They deal well with the rush of customers as they are always very busy yet wait times seem pretty good considering how many people they are helping. I feel they don't take the time needed to make each sandwich carefully so toppings can be minimal and not consistently distributed on the sandwich (i.e. ALL the onion is in one clump, or ALL of the avocado I paid extra for is on half the sandwich). More on the avo though. I routinely add avocado OR even add double avocado. Through many visits, the amount of avocado they put on a sandwich is dismal. They use 1/4 of an avocado, and they certainly don't get big ones because that translated into 3-4 THIN slices for $1.25. You could buy the whole small avocado for that. They've also not even added the avocado and charged me for it. Again, this is based on multiple visits, so you're basically guaranteed not to get much avo, or none at all. If my sandwich cost $5 I'd be giving 4-5 stars. At $10, they need to up their consistency and amount of veggies and add ons to...

Party of 7 people most of them co workers we order one after another and 2 of us order salads every body get their food except me so I wait a little longer to see if they bring my salad but nothing happen the guyand the laid y who were bringing orders didn’t bother to ask if we were ok or need something so I decide to ask what happen with my salad so I ask the guy he ask for my name and told me he was going to check so a take a seat again after 45 min no answer or salad unfortunately we have to return to work so we decide to lave the place no before every body from my group was making fun of me can’t say what they said to my but wasn’t funny at least for my so in our way out the guy stop me and give me the salad and nothin else no even and apology or excuse neither the other laidy who clearly was aware of the situation so disappointed in the service clearly they don’t care about the service they provide I don’t think I will be back to...
