Edit: I feel like the service has improved in the two years since I wrote this. The line does move faster although it can get very busy at peak times. But it does service a large area.
I do think this place is more deserving of your business than West End but then again, nearly everything is.
Original Review:
The ice cream is very good (I believe it's Richardson's if you're familiar, there is a sign announcing it), and it is one of the best ice cream shops in the area. If this is your local place and you know it inside and out, definitely don't stray. Prices are decent, competitive, but not fantastic for the portion size compared to some of the other places. The main thing that disappointed me was that I felt it could be run just a tad better. My first time there I had to wait about a half hour for ice cream. Also the staff wasn't very friendly when I finally did arrive at the window. I understand there are waits and such, but the staff was either shorthanded or just didn't want to rush--the line moved very slow. Other ice cream places chew through lines much faster. This place made a poor first impression overall. Also no napkin containers available on the outside but I suppose that's a me problem since I'm an aggressive ice cream eater. A lot of people do wait as the ice cream is good, but I see a lot of others take one look at the line, know what it means, and turn around. Swirls & Scoops would seemingly make more money in the long run by staffing more people, cut the wait time in half, and serve twice as many people. If there is a light line and you're in the area then you should definitely stop and get...
Read moreOk ice cream if you dont mind HFCS, expect a wait proportional to the temp X the flow of traffic :(
Dont despair however as the lines actually make the whole experience better as it's a bit of a carnival affair with kids desperately weighing the pros and cons of various flavours, tweens and teens wanting to be seen and hanging out, parents wishing to just get to the window to pay and everyone knowing someone in the lines themselves - the nearby donut shop curses their very existence every hot day no doubt.
There are some tables near the road and on the side and the view is good if the weather cooperates and traffic doesnt block but no ones in a rush to leave as the pleasure of enjoying your ice cream, cooling off and watching the world go by is profound.
i avoid it because of my health concerns but it's more than just an ice cream shop with a great location, it's a local tradition...
Read moreI am a years-long customer here, usually visiting a couple times a week throughout the season. Upon receiving my order today, I noted to the server that they had gotten an item wrong and asked for it to be corrected. They proceeded to tell me that I never ordered that which I’m very sure that I did, essentially saying I was lying. She informed me that she couldn’t take the ice cream back and that if I didn’t want to eat it I was welcome to throw it away. Rather than arguing, I decided to take the wrong item and I left. I was so put off that I didn’t even end up eating that. All in all, I don’t think I will be back, especially now that another ice cream spot has opened up just up the road. Huge customer...
