My husband and I were in from out of town and looked forward to something local. Picked this restaurant based on the good reviews. The decor is modern and very charming. We didn't know there was more of a sports bar atmosphere in the back of the restaurant. Since this was a Sunday Brunch, we would have preferred that side but were seated in the dining area up front. The idea of set up is sound, but like our meals it didn't hit the mark. For starters, the black fabric napkins and table cloths had a lot of hair lingering, which I found to be quite the turn off. I wanted to try something different than I can normally order and chose the Rasberry poppers burger. Described as whipped cream cheese, Jalapeno raspberry jam, and crispy pork belly. Our server said this was so popular as a rotating item it was made permanent so I was sure it'd be a hit. My husband chose the prime rib sandwich, no horseradish and add chese. Both picked fries, which endd up being the star of the show, so it was a shame the portions were so small. The burger, had there been cream cheese, I didn't see it, or taste it. The jam, was underwhelming as it was fighting the seasoning of the burger. It didn't have any hints of jalapenos. There was mayonnaise on the bottom of the burger, which helped with the dryness. I would've preferred a medium well cook, but this was well-done. I wasn't asked how I wanted it cooked and didn't think of specifying until we were eating. The prime...also well done, tough, and had fatty chunks. He couldn't finish it. I tried it, first by just sampling the meat. It was bland and dry. I put it back with the bread and dipped it, but it was so tough it didn't belong in a sandwich. I was surprised at this point he ate as much as he did. I thought it was odd the meat wasn't sliced and then after I realized how tough it was, it made no sense that it wasn't sliced because you couldn't easily eat it. It took over 30 minutes from when we ordered for this all to come out. We absolutely wouldn't order these items again. If we were to ever stop in again, we would try the bar side, and not during brunch. So if you go in the front where the dining room is, keep going to the back, or enter the side door for the bar. The women's restroom was nicely accommodating. I'm never a fan of writing a disheartening review, but my intentions are to be constructive as had I known what to expect, we would've made different choices during our experience. The staff was friendly, so I still feel we would try it again, but...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreUnimpressed. Probably my own fault, should have sent my meal back. Took the family out for a Friday night dinner. We donāt live in GI but our kids do and they heard about this place so we thought weād give it a shot. Arrived and the hostess was very nice. Took about 15 minutes to get seated. Not bad at all for Friday night. The building is very nice and itās a good atmosphere on the sports bar side. A little loud but to be expected. Got to our table and server said it will be 45-60 minutes for food. It was busy but not packed by any means. So we ordered 3 beers, a root beer and two Shirley Temples and appetizers- Cheese Sticks and Onion rings. Waters and pops took 15-20 minutes. The beers arrive about 10 minutes later. We got our appetizers about 5-10 minutes later. Appetizers were excellent. Shouldāve stuck to them. They did a great job getting out the kids meal, chicken strips and fries, about 5 minutes after the apps which was great as our granddaughter was hungry. Then it took an additional 30 minutes to get our food. About an hour and 10 minutes to get our food but we were warned by the server who was good at updating us. He was a decent server not the best not the worst. For meals, we ordered two burgers, a prime rib sandwich, a Philly and a patty melt. No complaints on the burgers good not great. The prime rib sandwich was decent not great. The Philly was soggy and the patty melt was horrible. The bread on the patty melt was as hard as concrete. The two meals in question appeared like they were under a warmer for a long period of the time. I managed to eat most of the patty melt but I regret not sending it back which is my own fault. My son who had the Philly said the same thing. I always have a fear of sending anything back at a restaurant. Not knowing what youāre gonna get back. I think we all can understand that. Nonetheless, I didnāt say anything. I guess I am too midwestern nice which is my problem. I got the check and realized that they add a 4% fee for using a card. Not a fan of that at all. Businesses should adjust the cost of their food and beverage rather than charge a fee. In my opinion, the prices already reflect a credit card fee for sure. For a $160 tab I just expect better. Sad to say it but we wonāt be back. There are better places...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe Double V is my favorite sports bar in Grand Island. Prices are reasonable, quality of the food and service are excellent. Very clean, great atmosphere. I have eaten there about 10-12 times. The menu offers a wide variety. My favorite is the low carb garlic shrimp soba with a egg on top, not because it is low carb, it's different and it's delicious. As an appetizer they have brussel sprouts. They serve the only ones I've EVER liked. Their onion rings are the best in town. Incredible soups. The pulled pork nachos are a pleasant surprise and oh so good. I have yet to try everything on the menu. The Double V is two restaurants in one. The bar and grill which is on the Elm street entrance and a separate high end restaurant on the third street side which I have yet to try. Much of the food is made from scratch. Nice beer selection, the house margarita is great, made right and...
