tldr: 1. The food is fine, its like McDonalds quality but greek instead 2. The meat is not halal! Be aware if that's something you require 3. Management doesn't know how to manage, leading to layoffs and poor morale from the employees. So if you care about the employees taking care of you, avoid this place like the plague!
This review is for the employees. I know quite a few of the back of house employees and I have to say that they should be treated better then they are. Before I start that, I should get my food review out of the way. The food is fine, its not the best Greek I’ve ever had, but there’s definitely better restaurants around and if you’re on the fence I would find something else. I would also like to point out that their meat is not halal. This should seem strange to you as you would think as a Mediterranean restaurant, they should probably have halal meat, but they don’t. This is also something they don’t say anywhere, so if that is something that you are worried about, definitely stay away, you’re better off just finding somewhere else. Now about the employees, from my experience, management is small and clearly don’t really know what they are doing. The biggest show of this is the constant failure to manage is that people are written up for criticizing management. For a normal person like you or me, if you are criticized it doesn’t feel good, but you take the feedback, move on with your life, and try to improve yourself. But for management, they take this criticism, throw it out the window, divert blame to the employees, and write them up for no good reason. Employees are not written up for behavioral issues, but instead for bringing up problems they have and can’t solve. Even though all this sounds bad, what has happened recently is heartless. Recently, the just “laid off” (the term they want to use) many employees right before Thanksgiving and the holiday season. I don’t know about you, but the last thing I want right before the holiday season is to worry about where my next paycheck will come from. The reason for these layoffs is because labor is “too high”, even though labor is only 30%, where the average labor cost is between 25-35% of revenue. The owner constantly compares this business to the other franchises rather than similar restaurants in the area (who would’ve thought that a restaurant in Denver would make more than a restaurant here). So if you care at all about the employees making your food, don’t eat here, McDonalds treats their...
Read moreIf I could give this place zero stars, I would. I invited my friend and her father to join me at this restaurant and it was their first time eating at this restaurant. My family frequently orders take out from here and have always enjoyed their food. To my surprise, when I let April know that I was incorrectly charged on my credit card, I got yelled at by her. I was very kind to her when I was trying to explain how I was incorrectly charged. She yelled at me so loudly that anyone and everyone in the restaurant could hear her. We got to go boxes and left immediately. I’ve never been so embarrassed in a restaurant in my life! Upon leaving, I called the restaurant to find out who her boss is. April answered the phone and after I told her I have never been yelled at in a restaurant like that before, she hung up on me. I stayed calm and spoke respectfully to her the entire time, just as I did in the restaurant. I will be calling Sarah the general manager. Sarah and whoever the owner is needs be aware that their business will suffer if they continue to employ a worker like April. April in no way should not be interacting with their customers. Her complete lack of respect for someone who continuously has supported the business she works at is a shame. I do not write reviews unless they’re warranted and most often I am writing positive reviews. In fact, I don’t think I have ever written a negative review before. I feel it is necessary for the public to be aware of what they may encounter if they interact with her. I hope and pray April frees herself from the anger she has and never takes it out on a customer again. God bless you, April. I will...
Read moreI recently moved to town and was excited to try The Great Greek, as I’m a huge fan of Mediterranean food. Unfortunately, my experience left me both disappointed and genuinely shocked.
To start with the few positives: the restaurant appeared clean, and the service was passable. However, the woman at the front counter didn’t greet us and seemed visibly irritated to even be working. It was definitely not a welcoming first impression.
The real letdown was the food and the price. I ordered a chicken rice bowl that cost $20 before tip, and what I received was astonishingly small. There were only five tiny pieces of chicken, barely any rice, and a scattering of tomato and cucumber that felt like an afterthought. It was hard to believe this was a full meal, let alone one priced like that. The portioning felt borderline deceptive, and I honestly wonder if the owners are deliberately cutting corners to maximize profit.
To make matters worse, the taste didn’t redeem anything. The lettuce tasted off, like it had been sitting for days. The vinaigrette was overpowering, and the chicken was bland and cold. I had expected fresh, vibrant flavors, but this missed the mark completely.
The atmosphere didn’t help either. The space is cramped, and there’s a total lack of design or character making it feel more like a rushed setup than a place meant for guests to enjoy a meal.
This experience was far from what I expected, and it left a sour taste, literally and figuratively. If you’re craving Mediterranean food, you’re better off making it yourself. It’ll be more flavorful and a whole lot cheaper. I’m extremely disappointed in The Great Greek and won’t...
