This new location has items you can't get at the Lyon St. location. My favorite has to be this Very Berry dessert. I love fruit and sweets. The term jello doesn't do it justice. It was made atop a firm crust that was sweet like a sugar cookie with a very thin layer of cake and then the main cream fruit part with a coating of reduced fresh fruit gelatin. This Mexican hot chocolate cookie lived up to its name. I was thinking hot chocolate with marshmallows. It is in fact a hot (spicy) chocolate cookie with cayenne pepper. It wasn't over-powering...just enough to warm my mouth. The Basque cheesecake: if you prefer a dessert that isn't on the sweet side, this one is for you. It had an eggy taste reminiscent of a true cheesecake, topped with real cream and the strawberry made it taste perfect. If you're like me and don't like nuts, don't get this carrot cake because it's full of them...however the cake itself was delightful...there was no density to it at all...just light and moist. It had great cream cheese icing. The decorative carrot was a disappointment..it was not made of frosting. I think it might've been marzipan? It was something chewy and blah...no flavor to it. Lastly, my second favorite of this trip: a slice of chess pie (dusted with powdered sugar). It was another sweet pastry crust like the Very Berry dessert. The filling was like a cooked milk chocolate custard...very...
Read moreI had the most bizarre experience with this company that I can't believe is their norm. I had my DIL order a cake from them for our son's 30th birthday we were celebrating in Grand Rapids. The entire family was gathering for our other son's wedding and we decided to do a brunch the day after. The week of the wedding/brunch, the venue (Linear) I chose cancelled offering brunch services (seriously crazy--I have never heard of that either!). So I pivoted and the JW Marriott saved the day and offered to host our group of 25. The only downside was they wanted to provide the cake. So I called Nantucket Baking to cancel and they would cancel my order. They said I had to email my request using the original order email. The rep even talked to the manager who insisted on this process and would not take my verbal request. I explained the situation and that I was planning a wedding, rehearsal dinner and brunch and honestly couldn't find that email. Still, they refused. I couldn't understand why they were so adamant and had no way to help without the original email.
Fortunately the JW saved the day again and let me bring in the cake without a charge because I ordered one from them as well. In the end, everything worked out. And maybe because I was frustrated by the cancellation policy, I thought the cake just didn't taste that great--too dense and sweet. My big take away is SAVE...
Read moreNantucket provided the desserts for our 100 person wedding, and they did a PHENOMENAL job. The cake was absolutely stunning and even more delicious. I, personally, am not a cake person--usually go for other desserts like pies or chocolates--this cake was the BEST cake I've ever had and I went back for 2nds. The design was beyond what I had pictured in my head and what we had discussed on paper. Jenna made ARTWORK out of this cake: the perfect balance of ornate, floral, artistic & colorful.
In addition to wedding cake, we also ordered mini fruit tarts, canolli, and variously flavored cake pops. The plating was beautifully done. Nicely spaced out and varied so that the table looked balanced, but was easy for multiple guests to come up at one time getting several desserts without crowding each other. The fruit tarts were the first to go, followed by almost all of the canolli & cake pops. The few that were left, our wedding party was more than happy to take home.
We received compliments all night about how amazing the desserts were, some guests said they were the highlight of the evening. If you're doing a wedding (or any other event), Nantucket is the baker to use. Jenna was amazing to work with--top-notch, exceptional service & out-of-this...
