Krekel's Custard & Hamburgers — Restaurant in Grandview

I have been to Krekel's many times and have loved their food however I went there today to get some comfort food and while waiting for the food I ordered I was quite horrified at the blatant disregard for food safety that I witnessed there. As I waited I watched an employee hand out food, the person took the food to their car, realized it wasn’t their order, they took it back to the window, the employee took it back into the kitchen, and THEN handed the exact same bag of food out to the correct customer.

Let me paint the picture, the person who had the wrong order took the food into their car, dug around in the bag, probably ate a fry or two while they were at it, unwrapped the sandwich, and then realized it wasn’t there order so they returned it. The employee just thought it was perfect okay to hand this bag of food out to the correct person. Even on a normal day this would be against so many health codes BUT WE ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF A GLOBAL PANDEMIC! Not only did they potentially contaminate the kitchen by taking food back in, they also gave that food right back out and potentially contaminated the customer who had no idea some random person had already dug in their food.

I wish I could’ve just gotten a refund and left right then and there. If they are willing to cut corners with food safety in the middle of a global pandemic then I don’t think I want to trust this place to be making my food. Hopefully they can get the proper training to ensure that food is being safely and properly made and provided to the customers. Okay, this was our first visit to Springfield and we took a look at something close that would be yummy and quickly feed 10 of us. The ratings were good and the pictures looked great, we pulled up and were kind of like....this looks like a hole in the wall (historically, these kinds of spots always have the best food so we gave it a go 🤣). It was sooooo worth it. The people were so sweet and helpful as we navigated ordering for everybody, on a weekend and in the middle of a rush. The he grilled chicken was phenomenal, the burgers were delicious, the bacon was real bacon and cooked crisp (not like this half soggy burger king bacon slices LOL) everything tasted so fresh and delicious and the servings were pretty generous. The store and the bathroom were clean, our food was good and came quickly and the ice cream was phenomenal. We ordered a couple lemon ice creams and strawberry shortcake Sundays. LISTEN the lemon ice cream taste like lemon cream cookies....it was so yummy. 10/10 recommend and will be revisiting. There's a reason Krekel's has been around for...

A year ago I would have given them 5 stars. However since the new ownership took over, the place has took a turn for the worst. Aside from jacking up the prices about 25%, the food has suffered. For one, the "homemade chili" they offered was literally canned hormel chili. The burgers, which used to be similar to Culvers, but better are now a soggy greasy mess. The help is rude. They were particularly rude because I didn't tip on their new POS system (You know, the kind where they stare at you while you enter it). I was going to give them cash in the tip jar, but after the response I got, I skipped it. Minor tangent, why would the help expect a tip? They literally serve everything in a bag, whether you dine in or carry out. They arn't a barista or bartender.. Anyways, I decided to give them one more try this Memorial Day weekend about 4pm on Saturday. They were closed for some reason.... I won't be back anytime soon. The only good thing left on the menu is their deserts. At least the Kreckles in Pawnee...
