I went in to Bulldog Pub & Grub today for a small lunch and I was shocked to find that Greeley has been hiding a wonderful little pub from me this whole time. This pub has a good selection of beers which they seem to get mostly from Weldwerks, a locally owned brewery that is very established and worth checking out.
I ordered a cuban sandwich, a dish that for some reason is lacking at every other Greeley establishment I've had it at. I was very surprised to have the best cuban sandwich I've had in Greeley. The pork was juicy and very flavorful with definite citrus notes from the mojo. While grilled and not pressed, the Cuban Baguette stayed firm and crunchy even though the juices from the pork were well inundated into it. There was a plentiful amount of ham and dijon mustard that did not slip and slide all over the sandwich while eating it. If more restaurants in Greeley would make cuban sandwiches like this, it would definitely be a more popular dish in the area.
Alongside the sandwich I had cajun chips which were good, albiet a bit lacking in quantity, but I did order a regular so that's on me.
The decor and nerdy theme of Bulldog Pub & Grub was one of my favorite parts of this restaurant. When walking up to the front door you will be greeted by two stormtroopers and they do a good job of setting the tone for what you are about to see. The interior is heavily adorned with statues of iconic comic book characters, posters of classic sci-fi films, busts of superheroes and action figures. If you look close you'll even see Han Solo cast in carbonite behind the bar! The music was not overly loud, something a lot of other places in the area could learn from. This establishment was clean and the open floor plan allows you to get around easily without having to navigate a maze of tables and patrons.
I am sad to say I did not try the pizza which seems to be a local favorite. I was not expecting a major rush from a place so tucked away, but while dining there was a good 20 person line at the front desk for what looked like pay by the slice pizza and that line stayed from the beginning of my meal to the end. And thankfully, the massive line at the front counter did not interfere with the service. My waitress was attentive, very polite and was very knowledgeable of the drink menu.
In closing, I will definitely be returning to Bulldog Pub & Grub and I can't wait to try the pizza! Whether you're looking for a good spot to sit down for a while and enjoy some good food with friends or family or you're just looking for somewhere to grab a quick bite on your lunch break, I cannot recommend Bulldog Pub &...
Read moreWow, the service could not be slower. When I walked in, there were 7 customers in the restaurant - all seated. 4 were already eating and 3 had ordered, paid and were already sitting with their drinks and sides. I was the only customer at the counter. There were 4 employees behind the counter. One took my order, one was making a pizza, and 2 were making sandwiches. I ordered the Reuben - no substitutions or changes - just as it comes on the menu. I ordered to go. From the time I finished paying until my sandwich was done took over 15 minutes. The two sandwich makers literally worked on one sandwich at a time. I watched them make each sandwich before mine. They talked and gossiped and one actually stood and watched the other one grill bread for a single sandwich, never considering starting the next order. Slowly the 3 sandwich order before mine was assembled. I have never seen kitchen staff move this slow. One motivated employee could have easily outworked all 4 of them. Finally I got my sandwich and headed back to the office. The sandwich was mediocre at best. The use Pastrami and Thousand Island instead of Corned Beef and Russian, so the sandwich is closer to a Rachel than a Reuben. They list the ingredients on the menu so I guess that is fair. But the amount of dressing was overwhelming. The sandwich was swimming. Why order a sandwich with very strong flavored meat and cheese, topped with sauerkraut, if you are going to drown it all out in dressing. And speaking of sauerkraut, they barely made the effort to put any on. There was little more than a tablespoon on the entire sandwich. They gave a pretty decent portion of meat, but it was the blandest Pastrami I have ever tasted. Pastrami has a pretty strong flavor, but this tasted like roast beef. It might have actually been roast beef because it didn't even look like Pastrami. I peeled some out and ate it by itself and it tasted nothing like Pastrami. The bread was standard grocery store marbled rye. The size of the sandwich was good, but that is completely lost when it taste like nothing but salad dressing. It might as well have been a Big Mac. This was a $9 sandwich and I would never pay that again for something so poorly and slowly made. I might have overlooked the slow service for a great sandwich, but this was beneath fast food quality - and value. I would have gotten a better meal at a drive-through - not to mention faster and cheaper. It is surprising the restaurants can get away with this kind of quality with the amount of competition. There are so many...
Read moreI went here for a quick bite to eat and beer, while waiting on a friend. I had never been to this town and searched for a bar nearby. I have to say that I was floored by the sheer amount of comic book and Star Wars memorabilia that decorated every nook and cranny of this fine establishment!! I wasn't able to ask the bartender on shift about who procured this amazing collection of cinematic and comic book iconography. The place was busy as heck as it was St. Patrick's Day, Irish revelry, celebration and proclamation was very evident in the air. Despite the singing and commotion between the patrons amongst themselves and with the 2 bartenders; I could tell that this was the Cheers of this town. The environment was very friendly, open and welcoming. I ordered a salad and mozzarella sticks to satiate my appetite. Both of which were very good and I wouldn't even label bar food. The kitchen was an actual kitchen that prepares food orders from open to close. The beer selection wasn't large, but what they did have in stock was well chosen. I would definitely recommend this tucked treasure trove and will make another trek back in the future, although it's anywhere but...
