First, this still says "Trattoria", but I think that the new place is actually Cafe Pomigliano. That said ...
If you were a fan of the old Trattoria on Milwaukee Ave, prepare to be underwhelmed. The new place seems even more cramped, the menu is smaller and more generic, and the servers' attitudes are inconsistent.
The bright shining star for this visit was our waitress. (I believe is was Dani - maybe Danielle) She was attentive, personable, and seemed genuinely interested in our experience. In contrast, the hostess/manager/owner who spoke to us at the front door was genuinely rude. We had mentioned to our waitress that we were surprised to see a kid's soft drink was the same price as an adult - and we did it with a smile and positioned it as a possible suggestion as the new place gets up and running. (Forget being charged at all - a number of places in the area throw in the $0.15 worth of syrup for free with a kid's meal.) The h/m/o told us as we walked out that she'd never seen anywhere that discounted kids' drinks ...and she should know because she has five kids. I'm not sure if I should have been impressed or surprised or what, but that's the response we got. Take it for what it's worth.
Space: There is none. You will back your chair into someone. Someone will knock into your seat on their way in or out. The servers will place their trays in the only available aisle as you are getting up to leave. There's cozy and then there's cramped. This is not the former.
Food: The old menu was bigger. It offered variety. More importantly, it offered a handful of unique dishes. The new menu has none of these. It is a small menu that offers nothing outside of standard Italian fare at a price that you can match or beat without leaving Main Street. Probably worse than the lack of variety/originality is the quality of the food. The best I can say is that it does, technically, qualify as food - and the portions are huge. Honestly, if you're looking for Italian food, consider the new "S"-named restaurant that took Pomigliano's old spot on Main Street instead.
Three out of five stars, but only because Google won't let me vote...
Read moreTrattoria use to be our favorite Italian restaurant. We loved the atmosphere, the food and the staff. Today we tried the new restaurant they built. I am not so sure they moved to make it bigger. They had a lot less space. The tables are so close together that the waiters have their bottoms in patrons faces while taking orders at the next table. The noise is awful between the sounds from the kitchen which is dead center of the dinning area and is open bay, to the TV at the bar which is also in the dining area on the other side. There is zero room to stand or sit while waiting for a table. The staff were not good. Our waitress was very gruff. She knocked over our sons drink, never said sorry, never offered to get him, a new drink or straw of which fell on the ground. Now the food at the old restaurant was the best Italian food we have ever had. This food was the worst. The portions were smaller. The olive oil tasted horrible. The sauce was terrible. I usually get the sausage a peppers meal. The sausage was small and burnt. The peppers were non existent. The sauce was horrible. I am still burping it up. My daughters gnocchi was so doughy. Her sauce was the same sauce that was on mine. My husband and father got lasagna, which was half the size and my husband had zero meat. The waitress told us until the kitchen staff get use to the new kitchen that they are serving limited food. They use to offer freshly grated cheese on your food. When we asked the waitress made a huffy noise went to the kitchen and brought back grated Parmesan. I am truly sad that the move has not helped this restaurant be a better place. So as a recap they have lost their great atmosphere, lost their great staff, and most importantly lost their great food. Hopefully they can make some changes and get back the best Italian restaurant again. However at this time you have lost our...
Read moreThis was our first time here, the lay out of this place it is wonderfull we were greated and seated right away we seat at the covered patio, our server took few minutes to come over but it is ok, we ordered drinks and appetizer at the same time because we were hungry, and it was only 2 servers and the bartender taking care of people so the wait time for a server was critical (server told me that when I question the delay on service, and she apoligized and explain me that) later on we got some bread, we ordered , get our food and averyhing was ok till dessert, we ordered a cheesecake and the server told me they were not serving the usual serving but insted they will give me another presentation, she told me that when she served, anyway this piece looked weird but it is ok, but when we tried it was so dry that I have to call my servers attention to explain her what was the problem so she appoligized and came back with another piece (nice and creamy this time) we ate it and left. So I like it but the fact that they were understaff quality of service was poor but understandable, and the dessert issue but I'm positive of my next visit will be better and I will be able to give...
