Donut World — Restaurant in Greensboro

After reading about Donut World having "authentic California style apple fritters" I knew I was going to have to make a trip to Donut World in Greensboro. The amount of available donut flavors made my brain hurt and were more than enough to bring shame to every Dunkin Donuts and Krispy Kreme in NC. There were so many Apple Fritters I didn't know what to do with myself so I ordered four... for myself :)

I couldn't resist the sweet sounds of the Maple Bacon donut or the Bear Claw... so I got those too :)

The Maple Bacon was surprisingly not my favorite which is odd given my lifelong devotion to all things bacon related. It was a really good donut but out of the three types of donuts I got it was my third favorite. Holding up the #2 spot was the Cali Style Traditional Bear Claw. I haven't been able to find a proper Bear Claw since leaving my home state and I was reliving many childhood memories as I had apple goo running down my mouth.

The real star of the show was of course.. the Apple Fritter.

Oh Apple Fritter... how I lay in bed awake remembering every one of your crunchy, chewy, apple, fried greatness bites. In California the Apple Fritters are HUGE, have chunks of apple, and are easily the best donut in the shop. On the east coast apple fritters don't even deserve to be referred to with the same name.

I have been disappointed by this place multiple times, but it wasn’t until this morning that I decided to leave a review.

They advertise on their menu that they sell Kolaches. I called ahead of time to double check, and was told they sell them all day. So my family and I drive there (we live about 30 minutes away) to be told that they do not have any more & to call ahead next time... which we did originally... but we chalked it up to a miscommunication.

The next time I called ahead, a day before, placed an order for a pick up the following morning. I was put on hold, they went to check the supplies, said I was good & they took my order. This morning I go to pick up order to be told they did not have the supplies & do not have my order. No one called me about this, nothing! So I show up just to leave empty handed again.

Their donuts do not make up for their HORRIBLE customer service, and if you are wanting kolaches do not believe their menu or their “call ahead of...

Hands down the best apple fritters you will ever eat unless your Gran Gran made them better! probably not though. Nice selection of donuts and also buttermilk donuts - they are great for dunking in milk or coffee. Lots of selection for custard filled but have only two other fruit filled offerings, Bear Claw with apples and the Raspberry filled donut. I think that section could use a bit more variety. Can't give them a 5 stars because of this. I usually go at night, after the baking is done. But the selections are still bakery fresh. I grew up on Dunkin Donuts. When I tasted Krispy Kremes I was sold and DD got 2nd chair. Sorry DD, now Donut World gets your seat.
