I had the pleasure of being in beautiful Greensboro for my cousin's College graduation from NC A&T University, my Aunt and Uncle chose this place since it was close to the hotel we were staying at the reviews seemed to be decent. To my surprise the service wasn't what I expected at all, we arrived around 7pm and we're seated in the outside area they have in the back, lovely ambience outside, music was very nice, well as lovely as it was the weather wasn't going to work with us and a hour after we got there it started to sprinkle a little bit...we inquired with our waitress, if its starts to pour will there be a way to accommodate us on the inside. It was told to us that there wasn't any space inside and we would have to remain outside, the tables we were sitting at had one main umbrella in the middle of the table, the waitress and another employee tried to help with putting another umbrella outside but these umbrellas were beach umbrellas it wasn't going to stop everyone from not getting soaked of the rain came down....and come down it did...less than 15 minutes after the umbrella dilemma the rain started to come down and it seemed like the restaurant was serious about staying outside in the rain while eating our food. Feeling like that was unacceptable, My uncle went inside to speak with the manager to see if some tables could be pushed together...there was another guy there who didn't seem to think we needed to come inside and pushed past people without saying excuse me multiple times to check to see if the rain was still coming down. It wasn't my best experience as a first time diner at this establishment but it will be my last....to think that people would enjoy their food in the rain is ridiculous, to think that you reserved this big party knowing the size of your restaurant and then not have a backup plan if something went wrong i.e. the weather...having an outside dining area you have to be prepared for these things as a business in my opinion.
Overall for the experience we had the food was good ...but not good enough to go through all of that.... oysters were under seasoned or possibly had no season at all, my braised ribs were good but I had more potatoes then gravy and it tasted as though I was eating just fat at one point.
I appreciate the waitress we had, she was courteous, polite, very understanding and accommodating to everyone's own opinions and attitudes as the situation was unfolding...can't remember her name but the young African American woman with the glasses and ponytail she was amazing she's the reason my service rating isn't a...
Read moreI am not one who enjoys upscale restaurants let alone upscale Southern cuisine fare, so when I was told about dinner plan at MJ's I was less than thrilled. However, MJ's was a pleasant surprise. I ordered the shrimp and grits. To be fair, words cannot express how much i enjoyed this dish. The grits were creamy, but not overwhelming rich, the shrimp were plump and cooked to perfection, the tomato gravy/sauce was light and flavored perfectly as not to overwhelm the delicate meat of the shrimp or the creamy deliciousness of the grits. My group of friends, around 7 in total, each tried my plate and agreed that the shrimp and grits hands down were the best entree ordered that night. Although the shrimp and grits stole the show, my friends raved about their dishes which included steak, salmon, and pork loin dishes. Although we were well fed, we opted for dessert. I am a banana pudding snob. I usually do not order banana pudding in restaurants because it can taste premade and artificial. Seeing that the shrimp and grits were so tasty, i decided to try to banana pudding, and i am glad i did. If my mouth could orgasm, it would have after one bite of the banana pudding. Just the right amount of creme, cookies, bananas, and no artificial taste. You can tell this is fresh pudding. Finally, our wait staff was fantastic. She was attentive but not overly intrusive. What a...
Read moreMy husband and I went here for our anniversary on a Wednesday night at 6pm. It wasn't crowded but we were seated in a tiny room with a group seated closely by. We were given a glass water right away by the classy hostess and then waited 10mins to order our drinks and waited 10 more minutes to receive them by our waiter. She stated she would bring us some bread but it didn't arrive until 25 mins later after we asked again if it was almost ready. She just forgot. We weren't given much assistant with the menu. The "specials" were more expensive than the regular menu options. Each $28-32. we waited a full hour after ordering to get the meal. appetizers or salads weren't ordered to delay the meal. No apology or explanation was given for the wait. The duck was deliciously marinated, tender, and exquisitely done. The sides were small. The shrimp was fried to perfection yet large juicy portioned. The food was good, the Grapefruit Mojito my husband ordered was supreme, but the service was sub-par for an upscale restaurant. If you are going to charge $25+ for a meal don't let the drinks go empty or the wait time be so long. "The duck is resting" isn't going to cut it next time. It may have also been the fact that we are younger than most of the crowd so the staff didn't give the same level of service as they did the businessmen to...
