WOW, am I glad to have discovered Mayasari. Although I've walked within 50 feet of the storefront many times, I only found it accidentally on a google search last night. I called, and asked about vegan/vegetarian. Oh, we have plenty, they told me - both tofu and tempeh for protein. Parking in front of the picture window, I was alarmed at the strange figure painted there. Learned later it is a shadow puppet familiar to anyone raised in Indonesia, and nothing to be off-putting. Hope people don't turn around because of a witchy-looking outline b/c the food was super-awesome excellent. Maya makes 9 sauces daily, and the asparagus special I ordered had slender, bright green asp. spears with tempeh and rice. I ordered mushrooms extra, and wow, they were so tasty I'm getting saliva in my mouth just remembering it. The staff were super-friendly and the hospitality was top-notch, reflecting the kind culture of that far-away land. Now that I know about Mayasari, it is my new favorite restaurant in Decatur County. And while I hope you will visit and keep this business thriving, I also hope that I can still score the semi-private room up front of a Saturday evening, which is a really nice space for a delicious and...
Read moreWe stopped at this restaurant for dinner on our way back from Ball State. After we place our order they brought us our soup which was great. My daughter ordered the sautéed chicken and mushroom Mie Goreng (Lo Mein noodles). I couldn't decide on one single thing so I ordered 2 meals. The 1st meal I ordered was the Chicken Satay, which is chicken beasts on skewers marinated in Mayasari Peanut Sauce with a side of rice and a small side of what tasted like a type of slaw with a vinegar taste. This was really good with the contrasting flavors and the chicken was so tender and not dried out. The 2nd dish I ordered was the Sautéed Asparagus Special which had Asparagus with marinated chicken (also the Mayasari sauce). This meal was as equally as good as the 1st one and both came with the steamed rice and are full complete meals. We both agreed that the meals were really Great and the small homey atmosphere was good as well. I highly recommend this place and...
Read moreHubby & I were traveling through town and I found this restaurant using Google Maps. It’s a dining spot for locals, so the owner was happy to learn how we found them. I selected Bihun Goreng with Shrimp. We both were pleasantly surprised when a Broth Soup arrived before our meal. I guess I am used to the large portions of most restaurants, so I thought my noodle dish was very small. It tasted excellent, though. In a small, interior room where we sat, there was a map on the wall with hundreds of pins. We asked the owner about this, and she explained that it was the location of all of their customer home locations that have visited them. A couple seated in the room near us, began talking to us. A man in a different area walked over and started talking with the couple. This was the first time I had ever experienced something like this, and it was quite nice! Next time, I will try the Chicken Satay. Other diners really...
