Went there for the first time today. I found it by searching on Google for a French omelet. I'm not a big fan of what passes for omelets in this country - the Dennys omelets, for example. I might as well have overcooked scrambled eggs - dry and distinctly non-tender.
The menu encouraged me. It was relatively limited, which means they didn't have to handle more than they could manage. Also, there were French bistro favorites.
My wife had ratatouille and salad nicoise. Voila's owner-chef is from Marseilles. He knows what these dishes taste like.
I had a croissant, one of the very best I've eaten outside of France. I asked the chef whether he made them himself. He told me that he doesn't bake but imports these gems from France. No wonder. Even though I've had decent, even fine, croissants in the US, none of them tasted like the ones I've had in France. I'm very happy he recognizes his strengths.
I went on to a side of sautéed mushrooms. The white mushrooms, which I couldn't identify, didn't seem to be the standard buttons. There was a pungent seasoning of garlic and herbs.
My main dish was a mushroom and cheese omelet. I could have added ham, but I like to keep omelets simple. I thought I could make a good omelet, but after this, I realized I need to work on my technique. Back to my cookbooks.
The cost for all this and a little more was a little over $50 bucks. An incredible bargain, and we...
Read moreI had the pleasure of dining at Voila Cafe for brunch with my father, and there is a reason why it's named "Voila"!
Being classically trained in French cuisine, and after reading the reviews, I am delighted with the quaint, delicious, and sweet hospitality this amazing little cafe has to offer!!
What a wonderful experience to have a French dish cooked for you, (without having to do it yourself) and appreciate the technique and heart that the owner brings to the table!
If you have never been...GO!
I ordered the chicken soup and it was THE BEST I have had in a long time! Tarragon, bay leaf, mirepoix, and handmade chicken stock are the backbone of this scrumptious bowl! May I bring my own gallon-size mason jar next time "to go", sil vous plait?!
The quiche was superb, paired with a salad and traditional vinaigrette! My mouth still watering just thinking about it! The macaroons and pan de chocolate tickle the taste buds with delight and "Mmmmm!" I have had the pleasure of the croque monsieur and escargot, all well balanced, light and yet so fulfilling! If you find yourself too "stuffed" for more, grab a pastry to go for breakfast the next day!
The world would be a better place if there were more "Voila French Café " bringing the same attention, care, and delight to everyone who walks through the doors!
I won't be a stranger here, I can't wait to return! Je suis ravi et...
Read moreOne of the top 3 french food eatery I went to in the USA that were really good. And yes I went to a lot of "French" food places. 2 others good one were 1 french restaurant in Miami Beach, since closed and a crepe place in Charleston.
The vegetables sandwich was "unexpectedly delicious" according to my wife (she is more a meat eater). I really liked it myself despite not liking eggplant, but everything was cooked perfectly and cut thinly enough (especially the eggplant for me 😅) . The goat cheese in it was just really good in it. Smoked salmon sandwich was delicious as well.
Also very good atmosphere. The owner, Fabricio, is very laid back, no pressure whatsoever about anything. He was working but took the time to talk to us whenever we wanted to, in the most natural way. Unfortunately in many business, people will still! talk to you, but one can feel that we disturb them. This was not the case at all here.
I would recommend to anyone who want to enjoy great simply made French food, yet delicious, precisely made and filling (except if you need a buffet to feel filled 😂).
Also, don't forget to get some macarons. They were the best I have had to this day, not too sweet like it is most of the time when getting them in this country. My favorite was peach, but my wife liked the lemon one. Will have to get some...
