We walked in just before 8pm on a Saturday night, after seeing they close at 9, only for the hostess to rush toward us to tell us that they were closed. The doors weren't locked, we walked right in. We stood there bewildered as the restaurant was FULL of people, the lights outside were on, etc. At first we really thought she was joking, then she oddly repeated, "he turned the sign off outside" a couple of times before we realized she was serious (no idea who "he" is). There was just a really strange, almost rude vibe coming from her. It almost seemed like she knew she was being dishonest with us and just didn't want to have to serve another table a whole hour before closing. We left, and checked outside for the sign outside she mentioned but honestly had no idea what she was referring to, and the sign to the restaurant was clearly on. It was so strange and we felt so unwelcome we'll never come back. And this would have been our first visit.
ETA we drove a few blocks away to La Cina where we were warmly greeted, seated promptly, and served delicious food with a smile. Every single employee there was a delight and we felt so welcome. Forget Sierra Station, do yourself a favor and go somewhere where they care about your business, go to La Cina!
Update: We decided to give this place a second chance because the kids wanted to go. The server was professional and friendly, but the owner recognized us from our last visit and apparently has read my negative review because he behaved extremely passive aggressive toward me which was honestly so sad we had a good laugh about it. He made two really rude remarks to me disguised as "jokes" which were just really bizzare. What kind of professional business owner does that instead of trying to make things right? One of the kids actually picked up on his vibe and said, "I don't like that guy, he's weird" and I explained to her what was going on and we had a good chuckle. Yes, he acted like such a creep he made a child uncomfortable. His behavior was really unprofessional and immature and just...WEIRD. Our second visit could have been a great opportunity to change my mind about this place to which I would have updated my review, but instead this grown man decided to act like a creepy, petty child. To top it all off, the food was mediocre AT BEST (margarita was downright horrible with an overwhelming cheap mixer taste). Do yourself a favor and avoid this place. My experience here twice has just been...

I have been a loyal customer of Sierra Station since the late 1990’s. Over the years, I have witnessed changes in the atmosphere, but the décor has continued to improve, creating a warm and inviting setting. The food remains flavorful and consistent, and it is a place my family continues to enjoy.
While I no longer visit as frequently, there are several staff members who always make my experience memorable. Laura, Margie, and bartender Jay are all truly a stand out for their professionalism and attentiveness. Jay, in particular, provides excellent service on Friday’s, which keeps me coming back.
There are a few employees that have known me since the 1990’s and always act like they do not even know who I am at all. 🤔
I at one time in my life was a server, I understand the importance of gratuity and taking care of the employees that take care of me. I’d like to add that humbly.
Menu highlights include the Golden Margarita, which is outstanding, and the Mexican Camarones, a flavorful dish that I highly recommend.
I last visited on August 24, 2025, and, as always, the service with Margie & food was excellent. Sierra Station has been a part of my dining tradition for decades, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for great Mexican food, quality drinks, and friendly service on the east side of...

First of all I will say the vibe of the restaurant feels very authentic! I love the decor that they have and the colorful dining tables and chairs throughout the place. Only thing missing was a live mariachi band! I definitely had high expectations from when we first arrived.
The waitress was good, she came to get our order pretty quickly after being seated. Mostly everyone ordered an alcoholic drink. Of course my go to was a strawberry margarita. From what I remember it was decent, nothing special but margaritas are pretty basic drinks. I think it was a bit watered down in all honesty.
My husband and I shared the combination dinner which includes a flour taco, cheese enchilada, tostada and beef burrito. With rice and beans on the side. We enjoyed everything in the plate, the enchilada and taco were my top picks from the selection. Realistically the food tasted like anything I could get here in SoCal though. I felt like the flavor was a bit lacking. Not knocking them at all but I did expect it to be a bit better.
4 stars because their food was good and service wasn’t bad! Just wish it was...
