My first time here on a Sunday morning. Its a very small old time diner. Looked cute online and had good reviews so I thought i’d go check it out. When I pulled into the parking lot there was a parking spot that was a sheet of ice. I am a handicap person and was very afraid of falling. There is no designated handicap parking at this restaurant. There was another spot that I thought was OK so I parked there instead. I went inside and the first waitress said to me wherever you see a spot open you can sit. There was only a spot at the counter at that moment. I realized the couple behind me was leaving from a booth and I asked if I could take the booth and the second waitress that attended me said no because I’m single and it’s not allowed on the weekends. I ordered coffee which was really good and waited for my food. The cook started yelling whose white car is next to the Blue after a couple of times I realized that was me. I said that’s my car and he said that’s a fire lane so you have to move it. I was very embarrassed. Of course I went out to move it and was able to find an open spot without ice that wasnt available when i got there. I came in and he did apologize to me for not catching it sooner. I told him I didn’t realize it was a fire Lane. There were no yellow markings on the ground. Just a yellow pole. Embarrassed to say the least, I am a handicap person with very bad knees. The counter stool was very hard and extremely uncomfortable to sit on and eat. Not accommodating for handicap, accessibility or Allowing to sit comfortably when asked Is unacceptable. I’ve never had this happen. I will never go there again. UPDATE: The reply from the owner made my point. As I CLEARLY wrote, I was not able to park where the ice was for fear of falling. I only photographed the sheet of ice in that spot. Thats not even my car in the photo, but the owner decided to post someones license plate and state for all the scammers out there to have! Why would he do this??!!?? Because he was trying to screw an honest reviewer?? Wow!! He just showed his true colors and proved my point. Having yellow lines on the pavement in a no park zone or at least a sign would be appropriate but the owner is obviously not, after what he did and then wrote. Or novel idea, an actual handicap spot. I guess you would have preferred I parked on a solid sheet of ice to fall then sue you because you cant keep your lot salted or sanded for your customers to be safe. All this for pancakes that I couldnt even finish because it so uncomfortable to sit without a back rest. I mean really? You are one mean person that doesnt know how to treat people or run a business. SHAME ON YOU!

These were some of the best home fries I've had. They were seasoned well, perfectly sized, and cooked carefully. Growing up in New England you get used to homogeneous piles of stuck together home fries at most diners. You even learn to love them. Every now and then you find bougie home fries from inauthentic breakfasts spots. Norm's home fries were neither the latter or former. They were somewhere in-between and perfect for the breakfast potato lovers among us who can still appreciate a little complexity. Not too bougie and not too typical. The eggs were cooked perfectly. I had two eggs over easy. The yolks were perfect and the whites were NOT crisp at the edges. That's so hard to come by at most diners. Nothing beats mom's pancakes but these were still okay. They were cooked perfectly but they were missing the crispy, buttery edges I tend to love. I would pass on the sausage gravy biscuit--I should have known better, this is New England afterall. The sausage links tasted good, and I might sound picky or fancy for saying this, but they were too heavy with fat, they kinda went down like a brick. The bacon was average and crispy. Norm's Diner had two benches for outdoor seating but I needed to order as takeout as they were only serving people indoors. That wasn't an issue for me at all. I supposed that was mostly related to the current nationwide staffing shortages in many service industries. The service was fast and pleasant. I would happily come again.

YOU NEED NORMS DINER IN YOUR LIFE!!! I Can't believe we've vacationed in Mystic Connecticut so many times and never knew about this little gem less than 10 minutes away! Owners Steven and Kerystal (chef extraordinaire) are absolutely wonderful! Our server Peter was so friendly, attentive and great with the kids. They definitely make you feel like family. Norms is clean and very well maintained (bathrooms included!) The food is out of this world, especially The Norms Burger (Owner Steven's recommendation) it was juicy, perfectectly cooked and the onion rings were the best. We also ordered pancakes (super big) with strawberries, meat lover omelette and Pepsi (fresh, cold and bubbly!) Yum! All condiments, napkins, straws, syrup/jelly were in reach on each table. No need to wait for someone to bring you every little thing, it was all right there. Cons: we found it on our way home :( Pros: WE WILL BE BACK!

What an incredible Sunday brunch at Norms today. Visiting from NYC, you often don’t find diners with much character in the city. But this is why leaving the city is so rewarding. Steve (one of the owners) sat us at the counter and the next 1.5 hours were the most entertaining, delicious, and memorable of my diner experience. His sister was an absolute pro on the flattop and everything was just perfect. I had the Stack: two eggs, two sausage Pattie’s, home fries, and sausage gravy. Side of scrapple. SO. FREAKING. GOOD. Oh, the pancakes too. Just so perfect. Wouldn’t change a thing. If you’re ever in the Groton area and need a classic American meal made with love and some sass, go to Norms. You will not be let down.

The food was good and the wait not too terrible. Waiter forgot to take our order but acknowledged his mistake, which we appreciated. *PSA For those with sensory issues: the space is small and it was busy so the noises all around were almost unbearable for me. The acoustics inside just seem to augment the sounds. I could hear almost every conversation in the place, forks and knives touching plates, a metal spatula scraping the flat grill, music in the background, people walking by because the space is also tight... you get the picture. I'm sure most NT people don't mind but I had sensory overload and thought it could be helpful to some. I went there on a Sunday around 10am.

The food was delicious and very affordable, but be prepared to squeeze in! The staff were friendly and the specials all sounds great (I went with peach pancakes and didn’t regret it). My only problems were how packed it was with people and the loud bell-ringing. They have a tradition that if you liked your meal, you’re meant to loudly ring a bell by the front door. I unfortunately sat right by the bell without realizing until it was first rung. Maybe i should’ve taken the bell with a better sense of humor, but the sound was jarring for those seated on the far side too I imagine. Very family-friendly though and with a military discount to boot! Would absolutely come back.
