Great sushi, very fresh but a bit expensive. I ordered the "slow your roll" as an appetizer, which was a spring roll with shrimp, avocado and tomatoes, served with a creamy serrano pepper and cilantro sauce. The sauce and roll were good but not exceptional. The roll was too much like a Chinese egg roll and I prefer rice paper for a lighter and crisper roll. I ordered the "Salmon and Garfunkel roll. The roll was filled with tempura salmon, beans, capers, unagi and topped with a lemon caper sauce and a zigzag of that nasty brown sweet soy sauce. As you can tell, I hate that sweet sauce and the roll would have been so much better without it. The place is cute but the seating is uncomfortable and the tables are flimsy, they wobble if you apply any pressure to them. The service was ok,...

Short haired female waitresses was beyond rude. Made us wait over an hour for a table, when we arrived she claimed she tried to call us…. That was a lie. She gave our table away to another larger party and said “they would not be able to seat us”. HUGE MISTAKE. We went to another sushi place just down the street with better reviews. Our group of 6 people happily spent hundreds of dollars on sushi, sashimi, and drinks.

Thank you for saving us from wasting our money with your establishment. We will be sure to tell everyone we know up and down the coast about our horrible experience.

I have never been so mislead, this restaurant was referred to us by a few of the local wineries. We will also be sure to let them know to no longer recommend Umi Sushi to their other members...

On the way to Santa Barbara we were craving sushi and we decided to try Pacific Umi Sushi. After living in Japan for 4 years, the sushi here doesn't stand out compared to the other reviews.

I ordered the Saba, it was fresh and simple. Also, I ordered the Rock n Roll, which has unagi and avocado on top. I don't recall what was inside the roll.

My wife ordered the shrimp tempura, she like it and our kids had the chicken popcorn teriyaki. They said it was ok so I tried it. The teriyaki sauce tasted awful. It was thick, similar to molasses.

However, the salad portions were larger compared to other Japanese restaurants. Also, they served a tiny amount of kale and about a table spoon of Japchae before the miso soup. The Japchae was delicious, wished they served a...

First of all, this isn't really a Japanese restaurant. That doesn't mean anything bad per se. Korea has had a long and contentious relationship with Japan, but cuisine synergies happen. The teriyaki popcorn chicken was delicious. Not as syrupy a sauce as I thought it might be, and the chicken was fried perfectly. The miso soup was watery and bereft of tofu. The (included) salad was very well executed, and well thought out too. Beyond the call on that one. The fish for the sushi was OK, but not amazing. Presentation was excellent across the board. Prices are bordering on being high (compare with Goshi for reference - and they have better fish). Alcohol prices are outright high already.

We came here for lunch, and the prices seemed a little expensive for the sushi rolls, but we still gave this place a shot, and I'm glad we did. The fish was great quality and it was absolutely delicious. I had the Crunch and Munch Roll, and it was the best sushi roll I think I've ever had. My friend had the grilled fish collar, and it was so tender and delicious. The miso soup, to my surprise, did not have any tofu in it - which i thought was strange... but the soup itself was very flavorful and well seasoned, so we were still happy with it. We will definitely be back for more delicious food.

Absolutely loved my experience at Umi Sushi in Grover Beach! The food was outstanding—each dish was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. We tried a variety of rolls, and every single one was a delight. A special shoutout to our waitstaff, Helen, who was exceptional. She was attentive, knowledgeable, and made great recommendations that enhanced our meal. Her friendly demeanor added to the overall wonderful atmosphere of the restaurant. If you’re in the area and craving sushi, Umi Sushi is a must-visit! Can’t wait to return!
