Golden Gong Chinese Restaurant — Restaurant in Grover Beach

I've been really craving some good ol' fashioned Chinese takeout chow mein and finally decided to try out Golden Gong when I learned that they do free local delivery with a $15 order (they will take card as payment over the phone if you don't have cash on hand and you can write down a tip for the driver on the receipt). Glad I took the plunge! Everything came piping hot within the estimated time of delivery. Combination chow mein was so delicious. Also tried the dinner special with mongolian beef, which was all very good as well. The only thing that I didn't care for was the fried rice; it was pretty bland with a minimal amount of vegetables). I will definitely be ordering...

Definitely thought this would be a good gamble after seeing such good reviews! But please for the love of everything that is holy, don’t be tricked. Everything is covered in a very bland pasty sauce. My girlfriend and I ordered different types of chicken and chow mein. The chow mein was okay. But we couldn’t tell the difference between which chicken was who’s based off of taste. The deep fried parts were soft and fell off the chicken... basically, we felt like “do you want chicken with your sauce?”

Don’t recommend. Unless you are looking solely for some...

We have been going to this restaurant for 20 years. A couple of months ago we ordered takeout and it wasn’t very good. Today I called to order takeout, to give them a second chance. I told her the last time it wasn’t very good a specified my dislikes, and still the kompo chicken had no spice, even though I ordered spicy. The Egg foo young was insipid. The three flavored delicate was passable, but the chicken chow mein was terrible. Overall it was a disappointment. I will never be back....
