I literally read every single 1 star review of this place, because i’ll be traveling from Chicago & wanted to find a decent place for my family to enjoy some southern food. Most of the bad 1-star reviews were due to BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! & BOY I TELL YA, from just my phone experience the CUSTOMER SERVICE SUCKS!!!! They dont have a website, so i had to look through all of the google map photos to try to find a menu for pricing for kids. Unfortunately, there was NOT ONE PHOTO of a menu. The only pricing photos they had, were of the signs they had on display outside on the building & on the pole. So i called simply to ask what was the pricing for kids. Today is Friday 6/6/2019 & the time was between 3:40pm & 3:50pm, so whoever the cashier or phone person that was on duty this day, NEEDS TO GET TRAINING ON GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! The ONLY good thing about this call, was that SHE ANSWERED RIGHT AWAY & she greeted me nicely 😐...I simply asked, “how much is it for kids?”. She replied, “there’s different prices for kids, can u hold please?”....So i waited thinking maybe she was grabbing the price list from somewhere, but then i heard her taking orders...then another order. Then i think she walked away, because all i heard after that was background gibberish from other employees & customers. Then she picked up & said “hello a few times, like she was expecting me to be gone. But i stayed on the phone just to see how long it would take just to GET A SIMPLE PRICING FOR KIDS 😖 I was on hold & waited dam near 6min just for pricing...After the call went passed 2min, i decided to take time stamps of my call. This is ridiculous & we may not even come..It was going to be a party of at least 15-20 people, but i guess we may take our business elsewhere. The name “CAJUN”, has me still curious to taste the food though. I may come sample a plate solo & depending on that experience, i’ll decide on if the rest of my family will come before we...
Read moreThe food here is excellent and worth well more than the low prices. The food is also extremely consistent for decades. They rotate some of the side dishes each day. I really like the selection of sides and that they are all flavorful with nice textures. Nothing is ever soggy or undercooked or drowning in oil or salt. It’s all good and is that classic southern food that’s very hard to get these days. The staff is always very nice and seem to enjoy working here. And the customers are nice too. On many occasions I’ve found myself sharing pleasantries with the other customers and employees. I don’t usually talk to strangers at other places. There’s often a warmth in the people here.
One thing I do recommend is not going within an hour of closing. The food is still great all the way to closing but they don’t necessarily replenish dishes if they run out. I’m sure avoiding waste is what helps keep the prices low. There’s never a shortage of great food so don’t let closing time discourage you, just keep it in mind if you’re planning ahead.
The decor is still what I remember 20 years ago. For me it is nostalgic and pleasant. They definitely clean, but it sometimes gets a little dirty when they’re busy, like crumbs on the ground. It’s a small place and does get crowded sometimes. Even when crowded we always manage to get a table. I often go with several family members and we put tables together and rarely have to wait for even 5 minutes for adjacent tables to open up.
I hope you enjoy Cajuns as much as all of us. We go at least twice a month and at times every week. And maybe I’m confused, but I eat lots of the vegetables and feel like this is a reasonably healthy dinner compared to most options. The fried chicken and fish are the main course and delicious too. Whatever your tastes or preferences I don’t think you’ll be...
Read moreI was passing through Mississippi and decided to give this restaurant a try. When we stopped in, it was very busy, as expected, which was no issue. My issue however, was with the manager. The cashier accidentally overcharged us for our meal and asked the manager for an override. He came up with the nastiest attitude I’ve ever seen from a manager! He was belittling the cashier in front of a line of people with no regard to everyone looking at him like he was insane. I told the cashier to not worry about the refund because it was just too much trouble for $3. I apologized to her for how he was speaking to her and she replied that it was because he was so busy. At this point, I watched him walk into a corner where drive up orders were being made and take out his phone. Real busy! As we made our food and sat at a table, he came out of the back to sit at a table where another employee looked to be taking a break. He started talking loudly about how customers had his blood pressure sky high and was “pissing him off”. He stated that customers should come in and just shut up and eat their food, all while he’s looking at our table. He went on talking like this loudly and just staring at us for about five minutes. He was literally trying to provoke us to say something back to him! We didn’t but instead got up and dumped our trays and left. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant simply for the poor management and unorganized serving practices. My heart goes out to these employees because the manager (or atleast that what he claimed to be) was rude, childish, and demeaning to staff and us, his customers. We paid $52 for three people and it was a total waste of time and money. Save your cash and...
