China Cafe Restaurant — Restaurant in Gun Barrel City

READ BEFORE YOU EAT HERE!!! Update 8.29.2023 Went to dinner there last night about 7pm. Their "California sushi" was not what it was 2 years ago. It was not cold.. In fact room temperature. The peel N eat shrimp was either way over cooked and I only got 6 pcs of 3 was mushy and stinky and spoiled. Made me gag. The sweet fried shrimp was so sweet and over cooked it was like eating fried shrimp jerky. The beef N broccoli was so sweet and that's all you could taste. The broccoli however was obviously an after thought and was not blanched or stir fryed it was just tossed in while the beef was still hot. So it was raw and sticky sweet. The fried wonton filled with cream cheese and sugar were so sweet inside that I put them in the fried dumpling sauce just to counter the balance of the sugar. The best thing was that fried dumpling and SAUCE but the sauce was room temperature too. The crab salad "imitation crab" was not cold at all it too was room temperature. We drive almost 2 hours to visit this restaurant and we are not going back for a long time. When they first opened from the remodel the food was very tasty and the right temperatures. Now if you pissed on it you can't get the right temperature. When my husband told them how bad it was.. The guy acted as though he didn't speak English. When I went to pay the $31 check there was a person ahead of me and he spoke English to them. Then I told him I would no longer come back until they brought back the quality and the correct recipe without all the sugar he understood that it was not good and told me that they had not changed anything... I said "oh yes it was very different and that we would not be back for a long time." I will drive to Nacogdoches and go where my parents go. I've had their hot N sour soup there and it was exactly what you would expect from the name...

I will never EVER step foot back in this HORRID place. We have usually had ok luck with this place but tonight sent me over the edge. My son saw the crawfish I should of known better but he just had to have them and they were rotten. I’ve never seen crawfish like this it was so nasty it was hard not to vomit. I show it to the manager and she said, we just got them in today they are fresh. I told her to eat one then and she laughed. Then as we try to eat everything was old tasting very mushy, soggy, stale. My kids could not find one thing to eat other than a sweet sweet roll and some ice cream but even the chocolate ice cream had something in it and looked disgusting. I wanted the waitress and manager to see their plates and be aware they didn’t eat anything and I only had one bite of chicken and my husband ate a little chicken. So I asked them if they could at least take the kids buffets off and showed them all our plates and that we hadn’t eaten. The manager just kept laughing at me and said I’ll take $10 off. $50 total for sick bellies. NEVER EVER AGAIN and idk how they haven’t gotten more complaints. SPEAK UP because this should be brought to health board attention and should not be served...

So I've been her 3 time in the last year and a half and thought maybe it's me, the first time. Nope the 2nd again maybe me, nope, this last time, no it's not me. I had three different dishes and it seems that the food sits to long. This last time the noodles were stirred and there were partially dried noodles mixed in, then there was the veggies with chicken and the chicken had a sour taste as it was spoiling. I can't seem to understand why all 3 times I have an uncomfortable feeling in there that I just want to leave. I never got sick thank God but people please check for carefully. Things are appealing but looks can be deceiving. More to the staffs. They were nice but they never smile. Are they Ai people. They don't look happy and it's been all 3 times I have been there. When that happens, the atmosphere is affected. Idk. I understand restaurants being in 63 and worked pretty much my whole life in the service industry and something just don't quite seem right. Almost scary, just gloomy. I watched people keep eat and wondered if anyone was I'll or going to be. What were they...
