PSA…we’ve gotten giant size donuts from Gurnee donuts for the past five years for my son’s birthday. Once during covid they didn’t have the donut ready we were understanding and gave them more time to make it that day. They provided us with a dozen donuts at no charge along with our order. Fast forward to today the two giant size donuts I ordered 8 days ago wasn’t ready. We were told they needed more time and offered to deliver them. No apology for the order not being ready asking if we can come back in an hour which means they completely forgot our order needing to scramble to make our order last minute. Nobody came out to talk to us about the order. This wasn’t our first rodeo with them not having the order ready and at this point didn’t trust them showing up to deliver our order. They clearly are not taking orders seriously when a customer walks in to make a custom order. It was completely disregarded and not a priority. We have been consistent annual customers for years with them for our son’s birthday. We had our son’s birthday party and didn’t have the time to wait for something to possibly or possibly not be ready. Our whole morning was spent grabbing an alternative option because of Gurnee donuts lack of professionalism, communication, and un organization skills lacking. We will not be giving them our business any longer and wanted to share our experience. To top it off my son was born at 29 weeks and was given a 50/50 chance at life. His twin brother died at 11 days old…this isn’t an average child’s birthday this is a miracle child’s special day that was ruined. Thanks...
Read moreGurnee Donuts: What many Midwesterners tend to associate with Gurnee (including myself) is the home of Six Flags Great America, but almost directly east of the park is a small shop called Gurnee Donuts. It's been around for over 25 years and although I undergo an annual pilgrimage to Six Flags, I've never taken the time to investigate this doughnut spot. A unique offering found only on the weekend is their ube doughnut. Ube is a purple yam commonly found in Filipino cuisine. It has a slightly nutty and vanilla flavor to it. Although I was there by 7:45am, there was a line extending out the door and they were nearly out of the OREO ube doughnut. They also offer a coconut ube doughnut, but let's just say that's not my thing. The doughnut is a cake style doughnut with a lovely purple color and topped with a generous portion of OREO crumbles. I may have detected hints of vanilla, but honestly, if I was blindfolded, I don't think I could have told the difference. I don't mean that in a bad way as it was a delicious doughnut and that means a lot from me since I greatly prefer raised/yeast style doughnuts (which is why I also got my go to raised vanilla sprinkle doughnut). It helped that their ube cake doughnut was not overly dry like a stereotypical low-quality cake doughnut but was instead pleasantly moist and satisfyingly chewy. Gurnee Donuts is Doughboy approved and the next time I'll likely give one of their giant cinnamon rolls a...
Read moreI was really excited to try this place. I waited outside in a long line to order my donuts. I got inside and finally made my way up to order and was extremely disappointed by 9:30 am they had almost no options to pick from. I asked for all the flavors I had seen online and the girl working informed me they were out of them. So I picked a half dozen of donuts and when I was paying a saw a tray of new different flavors. I asked if I could add two of the fruity pebbles and the girl smashed my carrot cake donut and broke the fruity pebble donut and then slid the box to me open and she said “ I can’t close it” so I asked if she could put them in a different box so I could close my box. I just feel like $18 for donuts I should have had a better experience. The two girls working seemed completely unenthusiastic about working and it showed. I will not be returning. I have to be honest a small business in this economy should be more aware of how they represent a business and...
