I have visited this restaurant in the past several times and have had great experiences but today was terrible. My wife and I had flautas and carne asada with shrimp. The food was cold/slightly warm and according to our waitress Sam, they ran out of rice. With the plates already in her hand she said I gave you extra beans and if that was okay which I responded yes to. But about 10 minutes later I see a table that got there after us receive rice. I brought it to her attention and said I thought you were out of rice but she responded by saying I gave you extra beans and you said it was okay. I assumed they were out of rice for the night. She should have explained it better and said we are out of rice but if you'd like to wait an extra 10 minutes, we can bring it out. It would have been totally fine. Sucks because she didn't seem to care and stood her ground on giving us extra beans and fries since my son had also nuggets with beans but no rice (his favorite). I asked for fries after the fact because they were out of rice and she responded by saying I should've charged you for the fries but I gave them to you for free. I was just thinking to myself we want fries now since you're out of rice since they give you the option of choosing rice and beans for the kids meal or fries w the nuggets. Anyways, in my opinion, the food was cold/slightly warm because they were waiting on the rice so plates were just sitting there, the staff figured out the rice was not going to be ready in time, so they took the plates to us with extra beans already on there, asked us if it was fine since they were out of rice (but didn't tell us they were making more) and when I asked about the rice after the fact, our waitress gets defensive. I'm not going to argue with you about 2 cups of rice but I will leave my experience here for others to know what may be in store for them if they choose to come here. And lastly, she said I could have reheated the food (probably in a microwave) after I told her they had the plates sitting up there getting cold waiting for the rice (which she admitted they were waiting for the rice to be done) but again, I've been here several times in the past and had never had a bad experience. Probably won't be back due to the fact that the situation could've been handled a little better. We would've waited the extra 10 minutes for the rice. I will also take blame for not asking if they were making anymore but her words were we are out of rice (never mentioned they were making any more) And I believe a good establishment that takes care of their customers would've given us the rice as soon as it was ready, on top of the extra beans, but that's just...
Read moreFood was good, but service was horrible. The waitress (Alicia) disappear after serving the food, which is fine it was a busy afternoon, but she took about half an hour to bring us our bill. Even after we offered to pay in the front, she said she would bring it to us forgetting and leaving us there another 20 minutes. When she finally came with our bill she said the tip is not included...ok thanks for letting us know (it's not like we never been out before) it wasn't what she said but how she said it that came across as rude. After collecting our money we said we don't want change and we were planning on leaving the tip (cash) on the table and before we had the chance to put the money on the table she said "are you serious, you're only leaving a dollar as a tip no mamen, esas son mamadas" First of all just because we are young latinos doesn't mean we don't know how to tip, secondly the language she use was very unprofessional, the attitude giving wasn't appropriate for the situation. We understand maybe you were busy and behind on your tables or maybe you weren't having a good day but that doesn't give you the right to speak to us in such manner and stereotype us because we are young latinos. I really hope this is the first and last time she treat people this way, nobody deserves to be treated in such manner. She literally made us feel like we didn't have enough money to be there, and that is just wrong and I hope they train their staff better. It's called having manners and treating people the way you want...
Read moreIf you're looking for authentic Mexican cuisine in Gurnee, Jalisco is a great place to satisfy your cravings. The restaurant has a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with colorful décor and traditional Mexican music playing in the background. The service is friendly and attentive, although a little slow at times.
But what really sets Jalisco apart is the delicious food. The menu is full of classic Mexican dishes, from tacos and burritos to fajitas and enchiladas. Everything we ordered was fresh and flavorful, with just the right amount of spice. We particularly enjoyed the enchiladas, steak tacos, and ceviche tostadas. Frozen margaritas (I had the mango and it was delicious) and the micheladas were also good!
A few cons: Dinner for four was about $100, and while the food was good, not sure I'd pay that much again when I can get similar food and quality from other Mexican restaurants for about $40-$60. Also, both my wife and I experienced stomach discomfort and frequent trips to the restroom that evening and the next day, but our sons didn't not have an issue.
Overall, Jalisco is a good choice for anyone looking for authentic Mexican cuisine in a welcoming atmosphere. However, not the most economical choice and I'll chalk the stomach issues to our food choices, and not so much the food at...
