I have to question the dozen 5 star reviews on here. our experience is nothing like the comments left on Google. decide for yourself. Unfortunately our experience at GDN was not good. The building is a very old 3 bedroom house that has sort of been converted to an eatery. It is a strange setup. We were shown into what would have been one of the bedrooms and sat at one of three tables in the room. That room was dirty and in need of a clean and painting. The walls are dirty as is the ceiling. The blinds on the windows had years of dust caked into them and dead bugs were on the window ledges. There was also an old house smell. there was no atmosphere, no music which is a must for an indian restaurant. We were handed a menu, and I tried to place an order. Mango lassi, no lassie only cola. Okay, we will have a dosa, no dosa, that won't start until next week. Alright, let us have Samosa, butter Nan and chicken biryani. The server repeated it back as samosa, Nan and butter chicken. We corrected him. After 10 minutes another server came in to confirm our order of butter chicken. No, repeated our order. Okay. After another 25 minutes a third person came in carrying what looked like a cereal dish. Here is your butter chicken, is this what you ordered. NO. However, it looked unappealing. Small amount of white rice with 8 or 9 tiny pieces of chicken in a thick sauce. Off he went and came back 10 minutes later and said they do not have biryani. Would we like to order something else. At that moment the second person came in carrying the same cereal dish this time with a paper plate and plastic fork and said here is your chicken biryani. Er no, that is according to your colleague here butter chicken and still unappealing. With that we left. We cannot comment on the quality of food but the place is in need of a good clean and paint, for a business that is literally 5 days old it is not a good start. Updated to respond to the Owners comments. I have a simple rule. When in a hole, stop digging. I am not sure why you referred to another fancy bar. I was critiquing this establishment. I do agree God knows the truth, so thank you for that confirmation. Would you like me to post the pictures we took when there. The one of the cobwebs under the front window was caught in a very revealing light. Accept my comments were made with honesty and truth and correct the issues. One final comment. I did a deep dive into one of the 5 star reviews. One from someone called Jaya. He has written several reviews all for indian restaurants far and wide and all 5 star. He must do a lot of traveling, Mr. Owner please advise what the chicken, rice and potato dish is that he put a picture up of? Is that available at your house? No it is not. If he is reviewing other businesses and passing it off as the Haines City one then that is completely wrong. Like I said,...
Read moreToday December 29th I was promised by my wife we will get your favorite, indian food for lunch the day after my birthday. I was so excited as now I thought we don't have to take a long drive to my favorite Indian restaurant in Clermont. So off we went without the kids. We then get there and walk in and waited in what looked like a doctors office for about 5 minutes until some Hispanic man came from the back to take out order while standing where you pay. So I ordered the butter chicken and Naan bread and my wife orders samosas. He then charges out orders and tells us to sit where we wanted. We sat in the room with the projector screen and posters of spiderman, Ironman and the godfather. The tables with plastic cloth that were cut and dirty and the non indian restaurant atmosphere. The host left and we were alone in complete silence this doctors/movie room waiting for our order. The food comes in about 8 minutes later and my love for indian butter chicken pushed all negatives to the side until I got my plates. Presentation was very poor. Plastic plates and a plastic spoon to eat my food. No drink came out until ai had to ask a second time. The jasmine rice was terrible and microwaved not fresh at all and no steam coming from it. The butter chicken was also not fresh and looked like they bought it from BJs in bulk as it came in its own brown paper bowl. And the Naan bread also microwaved to flat and moist pieces on a aluminum sheet. I was completely disappointed when I tasted what was brought out to me. Utter trash. My wife's samosas were burnt and looked like more trash . I bit my tongue and just wanted to leave. 24 bucks down the drain we ate what we could and left the place. I also forgot to mention that another man later came out who did look of indian heritage and said no word to us but put on Gladiator for us to watch and left the area. I don't know why this place is here in davenport as it is a complete waste for us indian food lovers. Utter trash. I do not recommend anything about this place. All positive reviews have to be fake. I always love to eat in the most dirty hole in the walls as long as the food is good. I am from New York and grew up in the ghetto so atmosphere really does not bother me. But when you mess up true classic indian cuisine that just makes me want to hurt someone's feelings with a review like this. Please close your doors and never do this to the people of Davenport....
Read moreI don’t know what I expected when I walked into GDN Indian Foods, but I certainly didn’t think I’d discover the culinary equivalent of a scam. This place isn’t a restaurant—it’s a crime scene where good taste goes to die. GDN is short for Grossly Disappointing Nibbles. Somehow, they took pre-packaged food, which is already mediocre, and made it significantly worse. That takes a special kind of talent.
Let’s start with the curries. Calling them watery would be generous—there was more water in them than in the lakes of Canada. The chickpeas were rock solid … literally! They could double as ammunition in a slingshot which might actually be a better use for them.
Credit where credit is due though. They managed to achieve the impossible: bland Indian food. The highlight of the meal was the rice. Not because it was good but because it was the only thing I could eat without questioning my life choices.
If you’re looking for an authentic Indian experience, this isn’t it. This place is an insult to Indian cuisine and to anyone who’s ever turned on a stove. Honestly, you’d have a better meal licking the spice rack at your local grocery store. Save your money, your taste buds, and your dignity—this “restaurant” deserves to be condemned, not patronized.
My review isn’t scripted but your response feels rehearsed. Just because you lack the ability to write a thoughtful response doesn’t mean others can’t write genuine reviews. Maybe focus on fixing the issues instead of...
