Novosad BBQ & Sausage Market — Restaurant in Hallettsville

They're only open Friday and Saturday till 2 anymore, so keep that in mind! Made the top 50 BBQ joints in TX list, and they DO have great BBQ in an old meat market setting. Been eating there since I was a kid. Everything smoked right out back, great brisket, local sausage, pork steaks, chicken, ribs, etc. Shame they don't have the smoked mutton anymore, it was the only place I've ever been able to find it and it was HEAVENLY!!! Owner said he can't hardly get mutton anymore from his supplier, which is a crying shame! The meats are excellent and the sides are good, so highly recommend! Check their hours though, they're only open half days 2-3 days a week now...

On my way back to Colorado, from visiting all of my wonderful and loving friends and family in the State of Texas and yet KNEW that I needed to revisit the small town of Hallettsville, where my grandparents and my entire mom's side of the Fabian family grew up, in those times around and before me, and stop by Novosad BBQ and Sausage store and pick myself up some Czech sausage to bring back home to family and friends here in Colorado. The people are really nice and friendly but the bbq isnt the best. Meat is very dry, so is the bread. The portions are INCREDIBLY small and VERY expensive. 9 dollars for a teaspoon of chopped beef and then they LOAD it down with pickles and onions. If I'm spending all that money I need some MEAT! Only one kind of chips for a side and have the nerve to charge $.75 for extra shot glass of sauce to pair with their dry food.
